Have also just done this, thread is really helpful so thanks all.

i am not really that handy but this was a breeze. Vents are not that hard if you just use a screwdriver to pull the clips down and then push a couple of credit cards down the back and it just pops out.

Plugged it straight into the back of stereo in spare socket and all done.

Sounds great and full volume. So for £33 from the stealer it's a great mod.

iPhone to go to head unit via Aux In, yes (because I hate them radio transmitter ones)

iPhone to be useable to answer calls etc like a hands free, yes (if I turn the radio to aux input as well so the persons voice comes through the radio?!)

Go for the goose neck attachement then as that will charge
still will need AUX connection to hook up to radio
for iphone to be usable to answer calls - then you will need to retrofit bluetooth. If you have the phone connected via AUX and it rings, the music just goes silent and the sounds doesnt come from the car speakers

Ah ok that makes sense.

I did notice that the TomTom iPhone cradle supports radio transmitter and charging, and looks quite nice... also has built in mic and speaker for calls etc.

My only gripe is the radio transmitter for sending signal to the radio, but I guess I could still use aux seperately (edit: oh, it looks like it has a jack out too, for radio aux use)

The cradle looks about 85% of what I want though... hmmmm

I got my aux cable today, part number 65120153502, really long (probably 1m), and worked perfectly with the iPhone, really good volume levels and quality! £34.74 + vat

Hmmm, when I fitted it I ran the cable under the radio and it clearly got nipped and the sound was really odd, bass was removed, and an echo was added to the mid/treble.

Anyway, removed it and refit it with a better path for the cable and it is fine now. Odd. I wonder what mechanism causes a pinched cable to do that to the signal along it

Either way, maybe a check for those suffering from not so great sound quality with the aux in, if it is nipped at all, it seems to sound poor!


Shipkiller, I see how your setup works now. I could literally build all that into a mount, say under my ash tray cover, and just drop the phone in and get power and audio out... kinda like a dock into the car proper basically. I think that is where I will go with it for now... time to go dig out a decent dock and make something that will fit in where the ash tray normally goes

I have tried the proper OEM Aux cable but it is quite unlike this one. It has writing on and I think i prefer the descreet silver socket.

the cable I bought came with the writing on the plate but I just removed the plate by unscrewing the locking screw... does the one you have not allow that?

hi guys so i bought Part number: 82 11 0 153 367 and it works fine but my only solution is to take out the black plug thats already there. This plug happens to be Navi audio (which kind of sucks loosing it). Are there any splitters out there? Will soldering wires together work? Whats the best solution?

FYI right next to the navi input (the one i replace with Aux in) there is also an identical white one... When i pull it out everything works so i am not sure what it is for. However it has a special pin on the entry jack that only makes it possible to insert it in its own space. Meaning the auxilary input has a pin that lets lit slide into the left side and white plug has it so it lets it slide into the right. I dont really want to break this pin (plastic) and insert it on the right and see if it works unless some kind soul explains to me what the white plug is for :roll: .

Need some help guys answers would be really appreciated

The black plug you remove have the same holes as the aux black plug free? if so just remove the pins from the one plug and put them in the corresponding holes in the other. Thats all I did.

gannet - Thats what i was thinking too. Lets hope these wires occupy different pins. Otherwise i will need to splice/solder them together

I have been reading this thread and many others.
The question I have is can I use the aux input cable (BMW part number 65120153502) on my 2004 3.0 Z4 with a carver premium system?

My local dealer says I cannot use the aux cable as the head unit uses digital cables for amp and CD and wont accept the IPOD input.
This seems to contradict all the info I am reading - has anyone used the standard 65120153502 aux in with a carver system??

I have just bought a 2003 with Carver and 6 CD Stacker...

Can i do the Aux DIY and STILL keep the CD Changer working?

Or do i have to unplug the changer in the headunit and replace with the Aux?

I still have the car to be delivered. But want to understand how i can go abouts doing the Aux DIY with a Carver system and changer and still keep the changer working!!!

Basically what i'm trying to say are there two sockets like the one where the multichanger plugs into in the headunit?????? So i can have one for the Changer and one for the Aux!
