I never did understand why more folks don't install the plug either where I did by the shifter or in the well under the E-Brake handle. That is where you are going to leave the iPod most of the time anyway why have the cord lay over the shifter??

2Zero...thanks for the tip! I followed your advice, took apart the plug and it worked! Now I have to call bavauto.com and cancel my order. Thanks again!
 
I did mine yesterday, I took out the assembly from the centre console and then drilled from the bottom up. Actually there was a helpful indentation already there with the correct size, probably as this was a factory option. Job done!

SO, looks like you guys have talked me in to it.
I will have to unplug the 6 disc changer to put the Aux connection in....?
Is there a way of having both? Would be nice to have the changer and iPod.
 
you can have both, I have :)

The 2 plugs that fit in the back of the stereo are the same - think they have maybes 10 holes in them. The Bluetooth occupies 3 (I think), the AUX 2. It is just a case of removing the pins from one of the plugs and then placing them in the corresponding holes in the other plug, effectively merging the plugs together.

Sounds more complicated than it is! Wish Id taken some photos now...

Once done it just appears as an extra source on your radio.

I have just done the install and found the volume is quiet. It's just about OK but so much quieter than the radio that you need to adjust on switching which is not ideal.

On BMWs other than the E85 there appears to be a facility to preset the Aux volume level from 1 - 5 but I can’t find this on my E85 radio head (“professional” with DVD sat nav).

Has anyone found how to preset the sound for the Aux socket on the E85?

There is nothing on the radio to mess with, it plugs straight into the back. The only time there is even a slight problem, is if you have the 6-Disc CD Changer in the boot.

Sorry to repeat if its answered elsewhere but can someone clarify the installation for cars with Nav and 6CD? I want to keep the changer, is there another socket to plug the AUX into? I read earlier about 'merging' plugs but some more details would be great

Dont know about the NAV system as I dont have that, but I do have the CD changer...

The problem such that it is, is that the plug for the AUX input and the Bluetooth is the same size and needs to go in the same socket. Not all the pins in the plug are populated so you can remove the pins from the AUX plug and put them safely in the corresponding holes in the Bluetooth plug (hope that makes sense) thus ending up with the AUX cables and Bluetooth cable going into 1 plug which plugs back into the radio.

I would imagine that if the NAV also plugs into the radio via the same plug it would simply be a case that it uses different holes in the plug...

Thanks Gannet, my dealer says I need part number 65410409610, and that it's £125+VAT! Or £326 fitted?!?!!!

Is that the correct number for the lead you guys mention? They also say i will lose my 6CD, so they are clearly wrong
 
A search on RealOEM shows that part as a IPOD CONNECTION RETROFIT KIT... which is a different thing and you probably would lose the CD changer with that one...

From the same site I think the part number I used would have been: 65120153502 but I cant check right now... I will check later when Im home for you :) Definately only cost me £50 inc VAT...

Ah, thanks, I see the difference, though on Real OEM it says there isn't one for my car?

Is it easy to put the pins for the CD changer lead into this lead so I can have both?

Functionality wise does the ipod just then become another source, so when I flip through it will be radio/CD/Changer/Ipod?

just trawled through some emails I have and 65120153502 is the part no I used :)

Note that this is for the AUX input and as such you wont be able to control the iPod through the radio/nav system, it just appears as an extra source in the radio. I would guess the part they gave you may offer more control...
