Aux connector compatibility

I am looking for some advice regarding fitting an aux in cable /usb to a system with a full nav setup.

Speaking to a local ICE business, I have been told that there is no possibility in connecting to the head unit and that the cable would have to connect via the cd changer.

Can anyone with experience of fitting these back this up. I really hope I can connect to the headunit otherwise my little planned mod is will be up the swanee.

If you have the OEM nav then just get yourself the AUX interface from BMW or make one using the guide on here, or I believe they are available on fleabay, but just make sure it's a known working one.

It is an OEM nav unit. I have found the interface I require online. Do they connect into the back of the dash nav unit or the unit in the rear centre console?
