Autumn/Winter 2012 image thread

mine from last year...

All shot today on a very gloomy day, facing south Howtown toward Patterdale on the west coast of Lake Ulswater, Cumbria.

The lake was flooded, hard to get to, the Howtown pier was also flooded and the Steamer wasn't operating to it, so much rainfall. 4th pic in thats 2 1/2 feet of water in the field, thankfully the path was slightly raised.

Shot with 5DMKIII 24-105mm and 100mm L Macro and a monopod. First proper go out with it. Pissed down all day and its fine!

All taken believe it or not between 1000-6400ISO, There was no light at all to shoot at between F8-16 so was shooting landscapes at very high ISO, usually not advisable but 6400ISO is like 1600 on a crop camera, results speak for themselves amazing quality! Especially with the Macro shots all shot at F8-11 at 3200-6400 because at the magnification DOF is hard to get and also you get reduced light because of the distance.

Got a few pics of the car too, but haven't had time to process them.

Great pics Tom as Bad Pritt says you are good at that

I must get a half decent camera. My farther in law is quite good i will have to get some lessons. I am sure he would like that too.

Lovely pics looks like a beautiful place you live. Wish we had got snow this year instead of the flooding.

Here is a fall photo from Burg Litchtenstein near Stuttgart.

And a shot from the beach at Sagres, Portugal Nov 2012. used a 10 stop ND filter, 11MM @ F16, 76 sec. exposure. I think it came out ok. would have been better had I been closer to the water. But every few minutes a big wave would appear. So I chickened out and choose to protect the camera.

And finally. Our friend Bill from Harrogate. Having an obviously very stressful day at the beach in Portugal. Poor guy.

This is stunning! What a place, like a fairytale castle! Brilliant picture!

The 10 stops work a bit better when the scene is quite contrasty like high noon when the sun is quite high, because you still get the contrast but get the movement too! Not surprised you stayed back can be quite precarious lol!

Thanks Carol! :)

Thanks for the compliment Mr. Scott. That means a lot. Burg Litchtenstein is a privately owned castle and is in great shape. They did leave one spot unchanged though. It's a piece of shrapnel from a WWII US mortar shell stuck in the wall.

I'm lucky to have got that 10 stop photo at all. The wives were not agreeable to let me scout around for photo ops while on holiday time. It would have interfered with shopping.

Agreed. High contrast works a lot better. Or a large movement of water like this from a waterfall (Geissbachfalle) near lake Brenz in Switzerland.

I will have to do some research on that, would love to go and see it.

Ye this one has worked really well. Lovely water movement, has some really nice sharp depth of field too, can be quite hard to get front to back focus without a hyperfocal distance chart but an easy way to get close is to focus around a 1/3 into the image and shoot F16.

Sometimes when I do these types of images I take one at a fast shutter speed to freeze the water and one with an ND grad and get the movement then once both have been processed I add a little of the water back in, so you get splashes and frozen action of the water and the smooth flowing water in the rocks, can look nice if blended together!

Tom those photos are great

My contribution (from a year or two back), view out my bedroom window, albeit without any fancy camera or editing lol...

may i just say that those photos are fantastic have looked at them time and time again .it makes me want a good camera and have some one show how to use it properly .

This was an interesting photo that came out well with very little editing! This was taken in February (uploaded in March) last year while I was cycling to work. This is the cycle bridge over the river.

It was taken with my iPhone 4s! It was tinted slightly and cropped using the Snapseed app on the iPhone but the fog effect is real! Was an interesting ride that day!
