Automatic Z4's

Stupid question sorry, but I see a lot of z4's listed as 'automatic' but they have gear sticks, can someone please explain this to me?

They are Steptronic,
push the gearstic to the left and you can change gear like a motorbike ie push forward to go up a gear and pull back to come down a gear.
although gearbox will change up to next gear on redlining

Ah ok, so the automatic ones just let you push the gear stick up or down to go up or down gears?

I enjoy driving manual, is the difference between auto and manual basically preference?

Some of the auto's also have the buttons on the steering wheel, the coupe is the my first auto and never regretted it

My coupe auto has the flappy paddles on the wheel. I'm not sure if this is standard but I'm sure someone will know for sure. I was always a manual man until I drove this. It's amazing and the gear change is so quick. Very clever system.

I was really worried when I got mine as never had an automatic before, however once I discovered sport mode and manual shift using the flappy paddles would never go back, much more fun than a manual box, however I am currently averaging 24 mpg so should probably stop using it
