Automatic Wipers turning off?

When it rains I turn my automatic wipers on, by pressing the button on the end of the wiper stalk (the green light turns on) and everything is fine. I've found that when I've needed the wipers again, I have to turn the automatic wipers on again. Is this correct in that they turn off every time the ignition turns off?

In my previous cars, the automatic wipers would naturally come on/off when required. TIA

If I remember correct, yes this is how they work.

+1
I've read that one of the reasons is to prevent the wipers trying to operate automatically if they are frozen to the screen :idunno:
