Automatic transmission light

Hi,
Owner of a 2004 3.0i for nearly 6 years. Pretty regular services, most recent about 10 months ago. About 130k something on the clock. I work from home so I don't do much driving.
For the first time ever today the auto transmission light went yellow.
The car still moves but its lost all its power and goes upto low 2k rpm before it moves.

Any ideas please?

Get it scanned could be anything related to the gearbox

Without codes it’s just speculation

But having said that the most common fault is the position switch. Otherwise the five speed auto box is very reliable.

Limp mode on these gearboxes locks them in 3rd IIRC which explains the slovenly attitude. Have a look for oil leaks as a starter if you can't read codes as low oil can give the same effects.

Can be damp in the switch. Often simply switching off and on again works. Or off, then move the lever back and forth and try again. I also found it worked better if started in Neutral instead of Park.

I have Carly,
This is what it reports in the attached pics

I think Carley is garbage to be honest. An actual fault code would be more meaningful.

Is the light on all the time? When it happened on my E85 I would turn engine back off and on again and it would go off again and all would be okay until the next time. The fault was the auto transmission switch and I got a new one fitted from a gearbox specialist for around the £350 mark if I remember rightly

Yes it does. Unfortunately pulling over and turning off and on does not work. Yeah I'm likely to go to a gearbox specialist myself next week if I cannot come up with a miracle fix.

Yeah I put up with mine for around 2 years as the warning light came on more often than not then decided to get it done. I think water gets into the switch somehow and corrodes something in it. I think it’s possible to get into the switch and clean the contacts if your handy with the spanners but I imagine it’s only a matter of time until it happens again.

I agree with the Carly comment. Every time I see faults from it they are impossible to work out.
In this case you seem to have a multitude of issues, which possibly all pass through that one switch.

I'm off to a family friend recommended transmission place this Friday and getting food delivered this week so no driving is needed until I am heading to that workshop.
