@c5z&mx5n1, no the parking brake does not need setting, it is just those two criterion of in neutral and clutch pedal not pressed, that's it. The only thing I find slightly annoying is the lack of auto-hold. If the road angle is small enough not to engage the hill assist feature, but there is a slope then you have to sit with your foot on the brake and or apply the parking break. As I absolutely hate sitting behind a driver, especially on a dark rainy drive home, who waits at a junction or traffic light with their foot on the brake, it makes me want to get out of the car and slap some courtesy into them. So I use the parking brake.
Also, I have used the parking break while moving twice, because the roof button has moved and I still have muscle memory from the M40i automatic so have reached down and pulled up the parking break, it does work too.
