Automatic fluid change

So I am now the owner of a 2010 3.0 automatic Z4, it has 78000 on the clock and I am thinking a gearbox fluid change along with a new filter and a clean-up of the sump might be in order.
I get the idea that BMW considers these gearboxes ' sealed for life ', but clean fluid would be preventative maintainance.
How easy is it to do a fluid change at home or how exensive at an independent specialist ?

ZF6HP fitted to 30i very straight forward..loads of videos explaining it…should be done every 50k-70k max..

BMW reckon 2 years or 15,000 miles between engine oil changes…

Bit of an echo…

We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things,

I don't have the 6HP but do have the 8HP.

Fluid change should be similar - I got the ZF docs online after a brief search. The difficult bit is getting the car level to fill it, I have a friend with a pit which makes it a lot easier.

You'll need a scanner to measure the oil temp and a pump to fill it.

Ask your local specialists what they actually charge; using genuine ZF fluid is very pricey.

Thanks Steeve,
This is what I was worried about. I can handle dropping the sump and doing the basic work but I had a feeling that on these cars there was a bit more to consider.
I miss the days of the old trans dipstick marked with hot and cold levels.
I am going to need to find a decent independent garage and find the correct fluid.

Thanks B21, blame the echo on my wife distracting me while I was posting this ...
I want to do preventative maintainance, but have heard it is not just a simple top up with new fluid.
I would never run any engine for 15000 miles on the the old engine oil. Fresh oil and clean filters are part of my religion.

It’s a bit more complicated but basically because you’re trying to purge the system it’s just a procedure to guarantee that…

If you’re going to keep your E89 for any length of time you need a decent bmw specfic code reader as your very first tool…way before any spanners etc..

Glad to see ‘old school’ thinking on oil change frequencies..

Thanks for the very useful link B21.
The Z4 is a high tech car to me so it will be a learning experience.
Your advice has been apreciated.
