Automatic Climate Control

Just purchased a 2010 Z4 30i and I'm puzzled about how the Automatic Climate control works on restarts I have the Automatic Climate Control, not the basic manual).

I turn it completely off before shutting off the engine, i.e., fan's off, it's on manual control, etc.

But then when I restart the engine, rather than keeping all the settings as they were when it was shut off, the fan ALWAYS comes on, albeit at the lowest speed. Is there any way to somehow adjust or program this so that the settings at shutoff are what you get at startup?
 
Don't shut it off-leave it on when you shut off the engine. I even leave on the compressor for the AC in the summer. Modern engines are ok with it. Most modern engines, BMW for sure, automatically disengage the compressor when you accelerate hard.
 
It's one of the key programming options that can be changed. You can choose to have the AC stay off upon restarting the car.

Not to mention I know the e46 had this problem, but if you're running ac for awhile, before you shut the car off for the night, turn off the ac and let the fan run for abit. This is supposed to prevent the condensation that builds inside your vents from turning into that nasty fermented bmw mold smell.

Or if you want to be cheap just stuff dryer sheets everywhere you can, I'm still finding some I hid a few years back. :rofl:

I've looked all over for the programming option that allows me to set the AC off at restart, but I can't find it anywhere, grrrrr.

On Page 19 of my Owner's Manual, there's a picture of the available iDrive "Settings" under the "Options" menu and one of the "Settings" items is "Climate." I am guessing this is where you would change it. Only one problem - the "Settings" on my iDrive don't include "Climate." Is it possible they changed this for 2010 models? Or that this option is only available if you get the basic package, i.e., without the Automatic Climate Control?
