Automatic air recirculation

Quick question, how does this work? How does it know when to block outside air? :?

A sensor is used to monitor the air quality. If it detects pollutant in air outside the car, the system only circulates air inside.

I'm sure I read it before, it isn't in the manual but in a tech guide. Can't find it now, maybe I'm wrong :idunno:

Then its presumably not detecting any pollutants? I'm assuming you've got full auto climate control, i.e. the top left button in your central cluster says 'AUTO'?

Not an optical sensor, it's a "sniffer", I'm not sure of the technical term. I think I'm wrong, but if I was right the windows would only go up when the sensor decided they needed to.

It detects hydrocarbons and other things.

The AUC sensor has the ability to detect:
• Carbon Monoxide (CO)
• Hydrocarbons (HC)
• Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX gasses).

I've seen the list of gases that the sniffer sensor will detect, it is quite extensive.

Hmmm interesting.....is it gas detection only, I mean what about potentially carcinogenic particulates that might escape the pollen filter, or is the latter uber-efficient?

thought it also turned off outside air in cases such as when you hit the max windscreen heating and it's cold air outside.
Maybe I imagined that, as I can't see it in the manual
