Autodoc grumble #37

Put together an Autodoc order for a stack of bits for three different cars (everything I own must be broken!) last Monday night and they are only just dispatching them today, 10 days later. I think the quickest turnaround I've had was a Sunday night order turning up on the Friday so I know to expect at least a week's wait, and I don't use them if I'm in a hurry, but this is ridiculous. I could actually do with getting the one car that is properly laid up being on the road for the weekend but that's not going to happen now as I don't suppose the order will arrive before Tuesday with Easter in the way. This is the slowest I've had from them by a country mile and it's infuriating. Grr.

We now return you to the test card and some music.

It won’t help with this order but I’ve found the smaller the order (in units and size) the quicker it is

If able I split over 2 or 3 orders mitigating the delivery costs

I placed an order for front top mounts, bump stops and drop links, plus a couple of oil and air filters. Order submitted late evening of 25th March. Delivered to my door 30th March.
I have noticed before, if you look back on the app, that it seems they don't hold everything in stock and sometimes it has to be delivered to them first.

I'm terrible at building up an order just to get free postage - the thought of paying more abhors me! 😉 This was only 7 items and £150 which didn't seem huge but it's a good point. It's not the end of the world, if it'd been urgent I'd have bought in dribs and drabs from eBay etc or GSF/ECP which I've got locally.

On the stock front, I was going to nod sagely and say "that's a good point" but now I think about it, everything was (and is) showing as In Stock - I never trust places that list things for backorder as I just assume they'll forget all about it so I do check that.

Oh well, it gets me out of doing an engine mount on an E70 X5 (horrible job and that's the easy one and I'm hoping I won't have to do the hard one), the rocker gasket on the Z (which is just an idle "it's a bit oily") and puts off finding out if a new lower rad hose on the E53 X5 was the cause of the leak after I changed the thermostat (I live in fear of causing more problems than I fix and would rather not know!)

Oh yes, it always says In Stock, but I don't think that's necessarily to hand in their warehouse.
Especially front struts: I often see them on the order tracking as awaiting picking from a different location.

Interesting, I'd not caught that. Seems to be a thing all over. I'm waiting on some radiator drain plugs from Devon but they're slow too - presumably they're on the way from somewhere else first too.

Bloody cars!
