Hi,
I've read of issues with the N52 engines (including lifter/head replacements to resolve), but not all that much on the M54... but the issue seems somewhat consistent with the same oil foaming as a result of hard running/cornering. Twice now, I've finished autocross events with the the lifters clicking. After a cruise at steady RPM's, the ticking disappears.
I'm curious if other M54 folks are encountering this, and what, if any solution they've found. I've heard possibly, adding an extra half quart of oil. I'm running Mobil 1 0W40... wondering if a heavier weight might help? Oh yeah, I'm in the US... both days, the temps were well over 35deg C (we're frying out here on the plains!).. at site of SCCA SOLO national championships, although the engine itself is maintaining normal temps.
Thanks for insights anyone might have,
Jeff
