Which A6 ?
I thought it worked very well with V6 mapped TDi quattro
Ours was a 2007 avant 2.7tdi (I think it was awd but it was a long time ago).

but the licence for one 6 speed vehicle is £146.21 (weird amount!) - says it’s vin locked to the vehicle.

I paid for the stage 3 Xhp as you can then change between them depending on what you want at the time i.e Trackday . It makes a big difference on changes and also gives you information on gearbox health . Definitely worth the outlay and easy to install and play around with . You will need a laptop though or I think you can buy Xhp bluetooth adaptors now . Go on you know you want to :poke:

I thought multi-tronic was Audi ‘s name for DSG ? Didn’t think it was a CVT box?

Multi-tronic was CVT
S-Tronic was twin clutch auto. Other VAG group call it DSG. :?

whereas 'Electronic' was a spin off band from Pet Shop Boys and New Order!

I bought the Thor bluetooth adaptor and it worked fine with that. I flashed it to stage 3 but I wonder what the difference is with stage 2, have you played around with the different stages?

I've had autos of various guises in:
  • E38 750iL - slow but smooth changes, almost imperceptible unless flooring it when it lags quite a bit
  • E46 M3 - SMG - fine if you learnt to lift off the throttle slightly when changing gear
  • E92 M3 - DCT - absolutely hated it...harsh when it was on the move, and unwilling to quickly pick up when moving off from a junction
  • E46 330D - 5-speed GM - was alright, but a bit sluggish considering the torque available
  • F31 320D - ZF 8-speed - the only gearbox I'd consider if I had to have an auto in an ///M

Generally speaking i think gearboxes have progressed & refined a lot in the last 15 yrs but if you do want to discuss worst ever auto experiences then try a early 2005/2006 VW Touareg 2.5tdi , truly awful & spoilt the ownership for me .
Present day i was unfortunate recently to leave my works manual Navarra for warranty work & had a 6 month old Mitsubishi Warrior temporary , auto box  this box coupled with the 2+ton kerb weight & 2.0 single turbo was truly lobotomising , i could not wait to hand it back , one of the poorest vehicles ive ever driven & at around £40k list blows my mind .

Yes had it on 3 but now on 2 . Stage 2 is as you would expect quicker than 1 but not as quick as 3 . You have to remember that you will see more wear and tare on stage 3 as I found it addictive . I think stage 2 is good enough for day to day and stage 3 for those driving trips or track day . Try it out . It doesn`t take long to swap over .

My first auto was a 2.0 Focus with the Powershift DCT transmission. That was awesome and changed gear so much better than i ever could. I've had two automatic E85 Z4's and whilst its not a DCT trans is actually very good and suits the car i feel. I've never driven a manual Z4 though but I'm in no hurry to go back to one.
My Mrs has a newish Puma with the six speed manual. I can switch between both cars with no dramas but i really can't say I enjoy the manual box, especially in traffic.

I’ve downloaded the app, registered my email address and agreed to marketing… in no rush, so hopefully the ‘discount’ emails might start

I think I might just do that, Stage 3 is quick as you say but in sport mode the shifts can be a bit harsh at times, it's fine in comfort mode.
