Auto windscreen wiper - issue or not?

Not sure if I have an issue with the automatic windscreen wipers in my E89. Thus I wanted to ask if anyone else has come across this, and thus if I should get it checked out.

Driving in rain the other day, my wipers were going mad running at the highest possible speed. The rain wasn't particularly heavy but the rain drops were tiny (really really tiny drizzle but many drops). If I had set the wipers manually I would have set them to the fastest intermittent setting. I thus wonder if the sensor mistook the many small drops for heavy rain... The same happened when I was driving behind the spray of another car, without any rain. Small drops again and the wipers switched to the fastest setting. Manually, I would have set yo a low intermittent setting. Switching wipers on and of fixed the issue for half a minute or so after which the wipers went mad again.

I hadn't noticed this before. Driving in normal rain the wipers speed always seemed perfect...

The car is under warranty still so I should be able to get it sorted if there really is an issue. However, I am not sure if it may not just be normal! I have only had the car for a few weeks and haven't driven in much rain, hence the question :D

If water is on the sensors then the wipers activate. Sounds like water has been landing on it and causing them to go mad. I sometimes get the opposite, if water doesn't hit the sensor then they don't react meaning I clear the screen using the manual function.

You can have the sensors sensitivity changed by BMW

Clean the windscreen in front of the sensor (outside on the glass at the back of the rear view mirror). It's likely it's greasy and confusing the sensor. Clean it well and see how you go. Try all sensitivity setting svia the stalk too.

The sensors work because of refraction of light I was told. Nothing gets wet or actually hits the sensor.
I assume it just looked like a lot of rain to the little sensor.
