auto tilt while reversing

According to the brochure, folding mirrors are an option on all models.
313 is just the mirrors. £200 on all models.
430, folding and automatically dimming is an £415 option on an sDrive20i.

Comfort package includes 430.

I just looked at the old 2010 brochure. No mention of tilt down. I didn't see anything in the current price booklet or on-line either.

We are taking our car in to have the semi-integrated navigation fitted. I'll ask. I expect they will tell us it is part of an option we don't have. Maybe they will code it on for us.

Folding mirrors and dipping passenger mirror are not the same thing.

Folding does what it says, they fold in against the body electrically. The dipping passenger mirror is just programming.

Hi,

Just spoke to the sales man which said it should be standard in all cars. Was then told by the workshop that it only comes with folding mirrors. Does anyone here who has no folding or autodimming mirrors managed to get the mirrors tilted when reversing?

Thanks

Arh, I've got the comfort pack so have folding mirrors. I thought they were standard on this car, but maybe not.

folding mirrors not the same as dipping mirror = true, but I thought you had to have folding to get dipping?

I have the folding mirror option... is that the reason mine dips on reverse :? Decided to make a video... are you sure you guys don't have the mirror dipped as low as it will go...?

Not in general. Our e46 didn't have folding mirrors but it did have the auto parking tilt down. On US market cars, it was part of the premium package. On our X3 3.0si, the mirror tilt thing was included with the base car. BMW bundles the options differently for the US. I'm not sure if power folding mirrors were even available.

On the e89 the feature can probably be coded on or off. I'm going to ask, but I have no idea if they will do it for free. Car is already going in to have the radio coded for navigation, so it should only take the tech few minutes. The dealer says they loose money on labor when installing the semi-integrated nav, so the service writer may tell us no.

Are you having the semi nav as part of the 'goodwill' thing related to hill assist? I was thinking of having it (that's a possible use of the 'credit' they've offered me).

I don't have folding mirrors, but the passenger side does dip when selecting reverse. This perhaps is due to it being the 35i which had a few extras as standard over the smaller engined cars, like electric seats, text to speech in the nav, extended lighting etc.

Yes.

Just got back from the dealer a few minutes ago.

The service associate told me the car should have tilt down. He also confirmed it isn't working. Although they had the car all day, the technician didn't have time to check the mirror problem or a problem with the iPod interface.

I'm going to have to book the car in again. . .

that's not too good. I have a plan that always works for me. I'm on pretty good terms with my salesman (this is our 8th BMW from the same sales chap). When ever I've had a problem I use him as a sort of 'project manager', he books service and a loan car. he checks the work's done and calls me to say it's ready. I think he's great and hence the repeat custom.

what do you think of the Nav?

Far too early to tell. Nice display. I like the mount and the nav does put sounds out through the car speakers.

Software that came pre-loaded into the unit was buggy. It wouldn't accept our home post code. Since that wouldn't work, I didn't bother to do much else with it.

I've downloaded a software update and am about 1GB into downloading a 5GB map update. Incidentally the Portable Pro comes with lifetime map updates. That alone makes it worth the extra money to get the Pro over the Plus.

I'll report back once we've had a chance to use it with the current software. It is a Garmin 3790LMT with some extra BMW software.

Give me a few days -- I'll try and get some photos too.

Well I have found out for sure mine doesnt do it...its a (July 2011) 23i if that makes a difference, I dont have fold in mirrors, but Would like the Auto tilt

I have had a look in the brochure (Not price list) for the car when I got it, but there is nothing about Auto tilt on any cars or any option packs

Any ideas

Cheers Chris

Mine doesn't do it. I don't have folding mirrors, but I have no autotilt no matter where the switch is. Shame as I've found this really useful on cars in the past.

Car is a June 2011 sdrive23i

I don't have it either - This years model.

There's no mention of it in any of the paperwork I've got. Might ring them and ask.

I have it on mine.. I think it comes as part of the comfort pack which included power folding mirrors and auto dimming rear view mirrors and side mirrors :)

very possibly. I have The Pure white Design option which gives the auto dim rear mirror & power folding side mirrors but i don't "think" the side mirrors are light sensitive dipping.
