Hello.
Been thinking that maybe I should change the gearbox and rear Diff oil. The car is the 23i SE auto, 2009 with just under 35K miles, what is the advice about this please?

For the ZF 6HP no later than 100k km ot 8 years whichever comes first

Changing rear diff oil circa 50k miles

Both sooner if driven hard etc..

Thanks Peter its something that Ive thought of doing to mine, the cars only got 31000 miles on it but it is now 10 years old! I spoke to a local ZF specialist today and they said that ZF now recommend changing the fluid on my model at 40,000 miles intervals or 2 years :o So Im booking it in

Hi Zed Baron..the figures I quoted we’re ‘official’ from. ZF...most proponents of good practice would counsel changing the auto oil far sooner 👌

I’m having a mega service at B for BMW tomorrow..

Cam chain
Oil pump drive
ZF box oil/filter
Plugs/Coils
Quaife LSD
Brake fluid
Coolant
 :driving: :fuelfire:

I'll give odds of 1000:1 that it hasn't been done..BMW won't have..many owners can't even manage tire wear judging by MOT advisories on E89s!

I found the parts on ebay, sump, gasket, bolts and 7 litre's of oil manufacture is Meyle all for £142.50 which sounds like a deal. I rang Sytners earlier today to ask them about these parts and they quoted £165 for the sump, and oil at £24 a litre, I am told that it would need 8 litre's, thats £192 + the £165 + Labour. :o They also stated that the gear box oil is life long and wont need changing unless I get a fault code?? :?

I got quoted £275+VAT from a ZF specialist in Glasgow for the service and that included flushing it, Im booking it in... + the roof relays its becoming an expensive week but I guess its a lot cheaper than if the gearbox and roof go wrong! Thanks to the Forum, you would be oblivious to these things
