Just out of curiosity :roll: has anyone ever modified the gear selector on an auto box? If you have can ya post a pic please :D :thumbsup:
 
Wondered about this myself - you can get different types on eBay, but I was thinking of seeing if MM could fabricate a steel insert for where the silvered bit is... Just never been brave enough to try and take it apart :oops:
 
Hmm I was wondering because I think the style of the auto selector is all wrong, just not sure what the right styling is, step in any time MM :D
 
TBH, I have no problem with the styling... Though it would be great if you could get a ZHP type short one. Problem with complete fabrication will be the switch on the front of it I guess. I was just thinking that the feel of cold, smooth steel or ally between the leather would be great.

That sounds a bit kinky actually :P

Perhaps get one from a breakers and send to MM so he could take it apart and see if he could make something...
 
I would prefer mine to be a bit shorter and totally covered in black leather. Ooerrr missus! :lol:
 
Took mine out to replace the leather surround with some Imola leather and it's not difficult, but as others have commented, you need serious upward pressure to get it out and it would be easy to take your front teeth out in the same manoeuvre, so be warned! :!:

Is it easy to get the plastic centre piece out, and could you drive the car without it in place ?
 
Well, if my memory serves me correctly, it was straightforward enough. Have to be careful when re-seating it as it is easy to think it is re-seated when it isn't and all of a sudden, it's really loose!
 
Cool, might take mine off tomorrow and send the silvered plastic bit to MM to see if he can fabricate it in metal :wink:
