Auto-Finesse Iron Out

I've been given some Halfords vouchers and was just thinking the other day I need some more fall-out remover.

I have used a few bottles of CarChem Revolt and been very happy with it, but considering Halfords now do the Auto Finesse range, I'm thinking on getting some of that.

Is it any good? ...or are they all the same?

What on earth is fall out remover. Sounds like something you might use after a nuke strike. :o

Ok had a read up on the subject. So you are using a product on your Zed that actively promotes rust. :o I am am going to give this one a wide birth. Unless I got the wrong end of the stick from my quick Google. :?

It’s a decent enough product, not as good as the bilt hamber stuff but it’ll do the job well enough on a clean Z...!

BuzyG, it’s stuff you spray on after a clean to help further decontaminate the car. Breaks down iron particles that bond to the paint...surprising how much it gets off on what first appears to be a very clean car.

Yeah, it’s genuine stuff. Also use it on wheels, gets to the stuff that bilberry can’t, although recommended to avoid callipers etc.

The ones i’ve used before stink, assume this is the same.

Used the Bilthammer one previously but found the Car Chem one to give more purple, although that could be that the panel I used it on had more contamination etc or I didn’t let it dwell long enough.

Gonna probably try it (nothing to lose as I’ve got the gift card) and if it’s ok then I know I can get it locally without postage etc.

Yeah, it absolutely stinks. Use it liberally and your neighbours will be calling Dyno-Rod.

It's the way it does it that has me thinking. It oxidises them. The particles of rust are bigger than the particles of iron, so they pop off the paint, into suspension in the liquid. Fine, as long as the product does not come into contact with any unprotected metal surface. Like a brake disk, or chipped area on your wheel. Though alluminum tends to self seal when oxidised, so does not corrode like iron.

It does say not to spray on brake disks etc but I have done so and it didn't damage them. It did make a mess of the wheel bolts though (made them look rusty).

Current need is for paint though.

Not s much look rusty, as just plain (made them rusty). That is how it works it turns iron to rust. :(

It dissolves the metal particles rather than oxidising (rusting) it using a pH neutral formula. Surely this is better than dragging them out with a claybar or worse a buffer. That's why I use these types of products anyway

I think if it was really damaging then there would be warnings to not let it hit these areas, rather than just advising, the the forums would have lots of threads on that.

I don't think it is damaging. I was simply interested, as an engineer, how it actually does what it does. :)

From what I have read, it oxidises the particles that get stuck on your paint work, as they oxidise(rust if they are iron), they change shape and become weaker(may disolve). Meaning they end up in the solution and are easily removed.

I would just be careful the solution does not come into contact with any bare metal surfaces. As others have experienced, it will cause them to rust, if they are ferous based.

worth a read if your considering using these products
