Auto dipping (not dimming) side mirrors

After seeing the other thread about auto-dimming mirrors, I'm wondering if there was the option for auto-dipping side mirrors on the Z4? i.e. when you select reverse, the wing mirrors angle down a bit so you can see the kerb/wheel better. I find the mirrors a bit crap - if you've got them in a sensible position for normal driving you can't see much/any of the kerb.

I've heard this is a feature on other BMWs, just wondering if it was an option on the Z4 and if not, if it would be difficult/expensive to retrofit. Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

haha.. I was about to post this exact question!
I'm getting constantly slated for not being able to park the car, whilst I'm just being careful about scuffing the 108s.

Had it on my E46 330cd auto but its not an option on the Z. Could also get the mirrors to auto fold on locking which was nice but thats not available on the Z as well, not much is.

Just move the mirrors whilst parking. With the 3.0 and above, the memory will reset them the next time you start the car.

Or use one of the three available memory positions to move the mirrors to the desired dipped location, without moving the seats? Power seats required?

That might have some merit - cheers!

is there no way of retrofitting a unit from another car into the zed?

it would be good to see, a switch on a motor could be hooled up to the same circuit as the reversing light.

I have it on the new 09 Zed, it was on my M3 and my Audi A6 so I expected it. I dont have a clue if it could be retro'd onto an older model Z, I'll leave that up to you mod' wizards...

The memory will reset them the next time you start the car... how do you achieve this

Mine doesn't seem to have a link between the seat memory and the mirrors. My Dads 8 series sets the wing mirrors based on seat position (it also has the auto drop passenger side mirror when in reverse).

Seems odd to have left such a useful feature out.
