Sounds great! I have no deeper knowwledge of different models but this seems close enough.
Allow me to introduce myself. I recently bought a 2005 Z4 titan silver roadster 2.2 originally imported from Germany. Now cruising around the tiny islands of Åland in the Baltic sea with a few trips to Sweden.
Only about a month or two of cruising before winter sleep.
Noticed that the sensor on.the internal mirror was gone and would like to restore it.

Do you mean the clear plastic dome underneath the mirror?

The dome is gone. Looks like this now.

Ok so I may be wrong but you could hopefully just find a replacement for that part.
Are you sure your mirror is an auto dimming one?
I thought they did the light sensing bit from the front where it mounts to the windscreen?

After some testing I can.conclude:
1: It is a auto dimming mirror.
2: It is actually working!
Whoho!
Im blaming my inability to realize this on our long light Nordic summer nights.
Which leads to question no 2?
What is the missing dome for? Is it supposed to have something inside? A lamp bulb??
