Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror faulty.

Hi all.

My Z4's auto dimming rear view mirror is faulty, partially dimmed, partially bright.

From what I can gather via Google, it's the liquid between the 2 bonded mirror glasses that's at fault.
Changing it seems to be the best fix but will I need it recoding?

Does anyone have any experience of a faulty rear view mirror in a 2005 Zed?

Can I just change the glass to avoid recoding (if it does require recoding that is)?

I would get that glass out quick before it starts to drip and cause damage to the interior.

From memory yes you can just buy the glass, and no it wont need coding.

Woah there!!

It can drip out of the mirror you say? Man, what kind of voodoo is that?

I'll see about buying a new glass insert, anyone know if the stealers do this replacement glass?

Just google it, nasty stuff.

Ha ha, just did.

I've actually just been out to the garage and removed the glass from the rear view mirror.

Now to find a replacement glass which I believe are the same as a 1 series as per this post from Dev http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=68814

As the E85 ones seem to be like rocking horse poo to find or are twice the price of a 1series one, does anyone or can anyone confirm the glass in a 1 series, what year by the way, will fit the E85???

Don't forget, the E85/86 M has a different shaped mirror to the 'cooking' models

After a quick glance I'd say this is possibly an appropriate one to donate it's glass assuming it's for a non-M E85/86 - I would still check the part numbers against yours (I don't remember mine from my original post but will go back in a bit and take a look) as well as the dimensions with the seller.

Cheers Dev.

I'm watching that one on the bay.

THat's the wrong shape, our mirrors are oval shaped, not D shaped.

Not all, the m roaster for sale on here that's just been put on is the same as my poverty spec mirror unless I'm missing the point, my old m3 had a propper oval mirror

Now that is odd - I knew the standard ones were D shaped, I thought the Ms had an oval one!
