Auto-Dimming Mirrors | Not Working

Hi All,

I am new here, and this is my first problem post.
My auto dimming mirrors are not working. Night traffic is becoming unbearable.

The rear view mirror has a sensor facing the road ahead, and I’m rotating the clown nose to dim it manually.

Any help is appreciated🙂

If your rear view mirror operates like this:

Then you won't have auto dimming side mirrors

It has the plastic moulded for where sensor should go but it's blanked off. Likely to save money in production costs.

An actual auto dimming rear view mirror has 2 sensors. The one you suspect facing the front but there is also a second behind a clear plastic casing facing the rear.

The one facing the front detects the light levels for day/night and the other detects bright head lights from behind.

I'm also pretty sure that the auto dimming ones don't have the facility to manually tilt them using the clown nose either.

Cover the sensor facing the window with finger and point phone flash light to the sensor I circleed. It should dim, if not may be broken.
For me, my mirror has bubble inside so I just retrofit a cheap E60 (E85 one is f**ing expensive) mirror and transplant the remote module to it, all works great, outer mirror dims too.
If you need it I attached the wiring diagram as well.
