Auto Dimming Interior Mirror - Standard?

Hi All,
Quick question, I have a 2006 Z4. It’s quite a basic 2.0L SE. But still love it :)
Wondering if anyone knows if all post facelift Z4’s had an auto dimming interior mirror or not?
Mine has no lever for manual/toggle dip but no auto dimming behaviour. Just wondering if it’s a dimming unit that’s broken or has had the glass replaced with plain unit, or if it never had that....

Yes, auto dimming mirrors were available - and common as far as I can tell.

There is a known issue with the photochromic ink which leaks out over time / stops working.

You can pickup replacement mirrors on eBay (typically £100-£150). Or check out https://www.mirrorjohn.com who specialises in replacing the glass. NOTE however, he only replaces the glass for the fully oval shape mirrors, which are a common part shared between some other BMW models. If you have the more trapezoid shaped ones, ebay is probably your best bet.

It's really easy to remove the rear view mirror - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAASqLXrii4 - and once you remove it you can see the part number of the mirror you have.
 
If it’s a manual mirror, you turn the led dome at the bottom of the mirror to dim. Well on mine you do.
 
Z4 autotint mirrors are expensive for why they are - especially when you consider that 1series mirrors are practically the same and available for around £30

I got a 1 series autotint mirror off eBay for £29

I had to disassemble both mirrors and swap over the radio frequency board on the back of the mirror, but the 1series parts fit directly into the z4 housing = cheap autotint retrofit
