Auto deploying cup holder

The roads where I live are about as smooth as alligator hide. After awhile driving on Pennsylvania roads my passenger cup holder starts rattling and shortly thereafter it opens.

Any suggestions or do I just need a new one ?

I think it's prompting you to get some coffee.
On a serious note..... try removing it and see where the fault is, perhaps a loose spring or worn catch. You might be able to repair it.
