Auto box versus manual

Auto for me too. Was happy with either when choosing, but I do like the auto now that I have it

My 3.0i is auto, and it's the one thing I would probably change, if I could. But when I bought the car (CPO) it had 99% of what I was looking for, and auto - so it was a compromise. I also read about a not so fun shift between 1st & 2nd gear, which makes me not so sad sometimes....

I had an auto 2.5si for 8 weeks and now have changed to a manual 2.5si.

The difference is unreal. They are like 2 different cars.

With auto the gear changes were with quite high revs. You could put your toe down and enjoy the power, but have no connection with what is going on.
As a result I used lots of fuel and felt like I was racing around all the time. Very revvy.

I much prefer the manual because I'm back in control. I can drive sedately if I want keeping the revs low. Nice and relaxing. Using less gas.
But I can also put my toe down and go faster than before and enjoy being at one with the car.

I would never go back to the auto myself in a car like the z. Just my opinion.

I always thought having anything automatic or semi-automatic was cool.


But, I'll stick to the traditional six shooter. Packs more heat and you have more control.

My car has a manual box - but I don't think its the "slickest" change I've used!

+1 for Auto - Wife's choice really, but with 265bhp there's enough get up and go in sport mode to keep up with the rest of you!
Also, which would you prefer for the daily grind through city traffic - save your left leg from aches!
p.s. Don't imagine this topic is going to be indicative, as the forum's probably biased towards the 'M' which doesn't have the option?

+1 Love the Auto Box with paddles & Sport mode. Very convenient in heavy traffic as well as great fun on the open road.
