Audio upgrade advice

Would anyone be interested in helping me upgrade my audio system in the Z4? I don't have a clue where to start, but I do know the sound system is low quality compared to an E39 business system I had. The Z4 behind seat speakers are very poor quality.

have been reading some previous posts, but wondered if there were any plug & play upgrades for under £200?

If you only have the basic 6 speaker set up, go for the best 3way set which will replace the kick well speaker add a door speaker and replace the tweeter, an if you think you have door speakers all cars have the speaker grills in the doors

I stuck in a pioneer headunit and the sound was transformed. No changes to speakers

Thanks, yes I must have the basic 6 speakers, so I should look for 3 way speakers.

I like the idea of just changing the head unit as I'd rather not mess with the doors.

I'd agree with Greg81, I have the baasic 6 speaker system but after fitting a Pioneer unit the sound has been transformed. I'm planning on replacing all the speakers, most likely as described by markplant, but that will have to wait for the winter.

Thanks Descarl, how much did you spend/ which model Pioneer did you get?

There's plenty for around £100-120 that look good and have 4x50w.

The 6 speaker system is actually 4. The 4" speaker grills on the doors are simply cosmetic and only real speakers if the large subs behind the seats are also present. Otherwise there are cubby holes behind the seats

2 kickwell speakers , 2 small speakers behind seats , 2 tweeters top of doors

Oh!! Them tweeters! I stand corrected :exitright:

All i did was add a plug and play dongly thing in the boot for bluetooth, havnt looked at the speakers yet but after driving around in a z3 for years the z4 sound system is a slight improvement if such a thing exists in a convertable. One thing i will say though is its a slippery slope for your funds once you start messing in this department, you always think it needs just a bit more. I might go down the road of subs in the cubbys but at the moment im leaving it at just the bluetooth.
