I have been facing a battery draining problem since April and the battery discharges completely within 2-3 weeks of replacing a new battery. I did a draw test today and with all the fuses on, the car was draining around 0.75-1.0amps. This is after removing fuse 26 to stop the light inside boot from being lit and doors closed. When fuse 50 was removed, reading dropped to 0.25-0.35 amps.
Based on the Z4 fuse diagram from another webpage, fuse 50 is for Radio Amplifier and it seems right as audio player is not working without the fuse. To add, audio player stopped working immediately after a battery replacement in 2021 and turning on randomly a couple of times on its own for few minutes. Current battery drain problem started after the audio player turned on and continued to work since this April. So, based on this and draw test, I assume there is something wrong with the audio player or anything else related to it. I will continue to monitor battery next few days with fuse 50 removed to confirm the root cause is audio player.
I have read a few articles mentioning the car will go into transport mode after dead battery and remains in that mode even after battery replacement, which in turn can stop a car's audio, AC blower motor from working. Coincidentally, both these stopped working after the battery replacement in 2021 with the exception of audio player that started working recently. Car was not used in the first half of 2021 as I was out of country and as a result battery drained and the mechanic who replaced it while I was away, mentioned the car went into transport mode due to it being idle and has put it back to normal mode but the audio stopped working after that. Can someone please advise how I can test whether the car is in transport mode and how to reset it? Any economical diagnostic scanners for the same? Any other problems that could be causing this?
