Audio distorting on AUX

I have recently bought a 2010 E89 and on some frequencies the music from the aux is distorted. Radio and CD are fine but the aux isn’t playing ball. It’s not on every song but most. I have a new lightning to 3.5 adaptor. I have also tried my cable and adaptor in a similar age 3 series which seemed to work fine. I am looking to get CarPlay which will render the issue moot but in the interim I want to get to the bottom of it any help would be appreciated.
 
Common complaint..have you tried reducing input level volume..?
 
You could also try switch cleaner in the AUX socket. Under certain conditions it can aquire a layer of verdigris on the internal contacts, thus creating issues. :thumbsup:

I have just done this as it was set to max. Put it halfway and the issue is gone! Thank you!
