Been looking around since selling my zed - still feeking a bit sick but it is going to a friend who is as fussy as me so it will be looked after - trying to find something different that my wife won't be scared stiff to drive , able to leave outside without fear of leaking / dreaded roof motor rust. Tried Cooper S but wasn't for me - not fast enough , too small for my freaky frame. Saw this - local car , red , non turbo but still quick.

3.2 Quattro is thirsty (My brother had one until recently). He also had issues with the 4x4 transfer box at the back of the car, cost him over a grand for a refurb unit. I found the grip and power put down to be exceptional. Handling is good if a little numb, and its a comfortable car too. I'd look for the TFSI smaller CC engines though...
 
Right - down the pan then ! Probably end up with another zed before long !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dare I say Coupe !!!!!!! Have to say I tried the TT forum - talk about rules !! You can't even access their sales forum without having posted 5 million posts , paid £1000 membership and jumped through a multitude of hoops !

joking aside i too have driven these and personally think they are rubbish!

Totally this! After driving beemers they are seriously disappointing, avoid :thumbsdown:
 
I drove a couple of TT's a couple of years back, I can only echo the comments above.

Suffice to say I never even contemplated one when I was looking around for a zed, and certainly wouldn't move on to one now.
 
My mate has the 3.2 in fact we took both our cars to Switzerland a few months ago.

We swapped cars for an hour on the 3rd day and I was glad to get back into the Z. The whole drive didn't feel involving, the cabin is far too 'open' and you don't have the 'fits like a glove' sensation you have in the Z

I guess its a case of " I told you so " - test drove it this morning - surprised by how much room there was but whilst it was fast it didn't feel as responsive as the zed - and to be honest didn't feel as well built. Other than that ok ish but not aggressive enough for me. Probably too hasty in selling my zed but it's no use crying over what's been done. The problem is anything I try I can't help but compare it with the zed. I will take my time and wait for the right car to come up but increasingly it looks like " I will be back " so the club will remain on my favourites and I'll keep my eye on the " for sale " forum.

Despite what they say about it being a golf i really liked it... the driving isnt as involving as the Z, but it makes up for being a far superior GT.

Better residuals then a Z too.

But my si feels faster :evil:

We own a TTS & I love that its quick & sounds good for a four pot & the interior is a nice place to be, but it gives you little or zero feedback when pushing on & even though its a Quattro you actually have less confidence in it because it feels at odds on the road it's just too ragged it doesn't inspire.

We are waiting to see what the 4 series 330d will be like because the mrs loved her old 330d & this Audi has put her off the marque, we want to get back into a BMW again at least they know how to build a drivers car unlike VW!
 
aquazi makes a good point. You can transform the statement 'involving' to Its a lot more comfortable and relaxing. Not a bad thing if thats what your brief is.

Couldnt buy one. I personally think the old shape is just that now. An old shape.
 
That's the old shape... & the handling is pants compared to the new version. Think you'd be very disappointed after going from a Zed into that even if you can put the power down more easily.

Unfortunately the new version isn't much better in the handling department either :(

I agree the original is a design icon, it was just when you went for a drive in it you realised it was just as boring as a golf! The trouble is VW never moved the game on with the new TT when it came to dynamics either, I hope your getting how much I hate VAG products :x

Audi's, it's a classic case of style over substance :headbang:
