Audi TT-RS...

...if Audi have got the knackers to build this car (and it looks pretty production-ready to me) then I'm certain it will secure the future of the next-gen Z4M, because BMW will not want to be out-powered by Audi. With the next-gen ///M pretty certain to use the 4.0 V8 for the M3 (IMHO anyway) would you choose this over it, or stick with BMW.

Work is under way to develop the hottest ever version of Audi’s new sports coupe, likely to be badged TT RS. Audi insiders have promised that the TT RS will be a “real alternative” to the Porsche Cayman when it goes on sale in Europe in late 2008 or early 2009 for an estimated 50,000 euros.

The TT RS, snapped here in the desert southwestern United States, will use a 2.5-litre in-line five-cylinder motor, its first five-cylinder engine in ten years. Early reports indicate that Audi will boost performance to a hefty 350 horsepower using twin sequential turbochargers.

All this grunt will be channeled through Audi’s permanent all-whele-drive quattro system and a six-speed manual gearbox, though the DSG dual-clutch system will also be available as an option. Expect sporty styling with unique large-diameter wheels, alloy-effect door mirrors, aggressive bumpers, RS badges on the brakes and sill extensions. Volkswagen’s new 280bhp 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine, lined up for a hot version of the Passat CC, is expected to be released at the same time to replace the 3.2-litre V6 currently powering the range-topping standard TT.

Probably stick with BMW, I know the last TT was much more of a style thing, but it has left a label to that car of being about image. The old one was much better looking also (fell in love with it when I saw it as a concept car at the age of 13). Not really a fan of turbo's, would prefer a normally aspirated engine.

NA engine all the way. And even though audi are catching up now, they are still a way off of competing with M cars IMO

I agree, and I still think it has a slight image problem now, but the TTS and TTRS will start to change that.

Not too bothered about turbo engines, they are probably the way forwards anyway, fuel prices and CO2 and all that crap.

I don't think Audi will ever compete with the M cars whilst ever they insist on using the Haldex 4wd system for cars like the S3 and TT, it's virtually a FWD system with a bit of RWD in exceptional circumstances. RWD is still the only way forward, in this price bracket anyway. But the point is, whilst ever Audi produce these cars, BMW needs to make a rival, so good news really :D

Other cars like the RS4, Nissan GTR etc use a different 4WD system that is miles better.
