Audi S5 John o groats to Lands End at 90mph average

Did a very similar run in 2001 with a friend, in a single day, but topped and tailed with a round of golf at the most southerly and northerly courses on mainland UK. Took us 20 hours in total, but we did stop for lunch and refuelling a couple of (a few) times. Our golf was poor at the start of the day (0400) and total rubbish after being in a car for the best part of 15 hours. We had to rely on handwritten notes to 'remind' us where the speed cameras were.

Whether the guy did or didn't do it, he's a tool!

Yup, a complete arse. Personally I don’t believe that he did it.He was interviewed on R2 yesterday and confirmed himself as an arrogant w***er.

Sounds like he has just cost himself a big fine and several points. The Police could seize his car as evidence to download data from his sat Nav. Would be nice and safer for all if a judge would confiscate his car and crush it as part of the penalty

Cleaner than clean are you???
Never speed???

Thought not.
Nope but not stupid enough to advertise it and certainly not at those speeds required to average that over that distance.

PS It can be proved or disproved he did it by his mobile phone. Each time the mobile logs onto each mast en-route it's logged and provides a time and location extremely accurately.

Remember the days when you had to be seen by the police and distance measured using the shadow of a motorway bridge (or hand held speed checker) before you got caught.. aaaah the good old days... I'm not sure why some people on here seem to be happy to have every inch of their driving history tracked/recorded and fines/bans issued by computer.

The amount of personal freedoms people have given up for the sake of the gov "protecting" us would make WW1 and WW2 casulalties turn in their graves.

Totally agree, while admitted it's not the cleverest thing to do by admitting to all and sundry, we do seem to get all high and mighty on the "What if?" scenarios. "What if" never happened, he purports to have done it, now everyone is concerning themselves with technological ways of proving/disproving/prosecuting him. If he did do it then he did it under the radar without causing an accident no-one would've been any the wiser.
When one considers the previous"record" from 1984 that's more impressive given that proper maps had to be used, the roads probably were quieter then but bearing in mind the bikes tank range was probably only just over 100 miles making for lots of stops.

I drive the M6 south bound every night and you really would not believe the speed these Irish plated cars pass me in the huge 50mph zone some easily topping 90mph yet I see the same cars a couple of times a week how the hell they still have a license is beyond me this guy probably will get away with it as well ( knobhead)

They should have just left the M6 alone, rather than turning it into a "smart" motorway, where some random person sitting in a control room determins the "safe" speed, rather than the thousands of actual drivers on the road. Smart motorways are just a cash cow with cameras on every gantry, that are still active even if the speed limit sign isnt on.

yes I agree it’s a joke a waste of tax payers money only to profit off the same tax payers why not use the money to fill these fu€€ing potholes 😡

Hm. I call BS on this I think. For one it's in the Daily Mail, and also the 150 litres of fuel claim doesn't stack up in my mind. (That, and they don't seem able to write 'V8' when talking about the engine :D ) Also, to have a 90mph average across the whole of the journey, where the beginning and end are windy non-motorway roads, I can't see that it is physically possible to achieve.

But then, perhaps I'm just a cynic!

I'm down on the 'fake news' side for this - the claim has been out there for long enough now to have some dash cam footage from all those trucks he passed in the dead of night (at what ever it was mph) unless he avoided them as well as well as the cops :?
