Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I last posted about the Audi and my initial reservations on its character.
It's now ticked over 11k and is due a service in the next week or so, or 4600 miles - which we certainly won't achieve.
In July we set off for our road trip across Europe, making stops in Frankfurt, Munich, Lake Garda, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Cologne before returning home. We covered just over 2000 miles in 12 days and I must say I can't fault the car. It carried two of us, two bags, a cool bag, large holdall as well as other bits in comfort and averaged nearly 36mpg from start to finish. Given the performance on tap and the types of roads we encountered (autobahn at 130mph + and small twisty mountain roads - I think this is pretty good).
We fitted an RS5 spoiler to the boot lid as it was just missing a little something to finish it off. There's some pics of it below.
I still don't love it, the way I loved my Zed but it's a very capable, comfortable car. It managed to get lots of looks driving around, especially in Germany where apparently us Brits are well known for driving sensible, (aka boring) cars in either grey or black.
It does have a habit of droning a bit when moving slowly in traffic and occasionally I had to blip down a gear to stop the noise. However, this can also be cured by changing to 'efficiency or comfort' mode.
It was detailed on our return from holiday (to remove the baked on water marks after being at the hotel in Italy) and the garage has been rearranged to accommodate it's fat ass. So once it's properly sealed it will probably rest up over the winter months. Although it might make an appearance for a nice crisp winter jaunt somewhere.
