Audi R8

Hey all,

has anyone driven an R8? do you have any comments, also in particular in comparison the M?

this is sort of the next car i've set my sights on. I love the z4m to bits and was interested in any comparison people have?

Cheers,

Pom

Pom,

you're moving up a class in performance and finish. Mate has one and he loves it. A serious alternative to a 911and that says it all.

Never driven one, but will likely be my next car in around 2-3 years unless I change over to an E92 before the end of the year. Decisions decisions.

I've driven one, my old fella had one as a demo for a weekend whilst they tried to coax him out of a 911tt.

I had a few miles in it, sounded great, felt very wide. The performance wasn't what I'd expected though, not much different to the MC, but if offered a straight swap I'd have one today. They're kicking around for £60k these days, still too rich for what they are. Very nice bit of kit though. I was amazed how many people thought it was the new TT though!

Just to add, it didn't coax the old chap from the old beetles either.

im sorry, im willing to accept they may be great to drive, but i dont like the look of them at all... especially that oh-so-ewww lack of colour coding down the sides.

I love them from the rear and especially the front, but the side profile is just odd IMHO. Nice drive though, by all accounts.

I love my M Coupe, but I'd definitely sell it for one of these. As pointed out, the performance isn't earth-shattering - with my 3.91 rear end the Audi's only a couple tenths faster to 60 - but the overall package is a great combination of looks, performance, and luxury. The only thing I didn't like about the one I rode in was the color scheme (white with silver blades, which reminded me of a white Smart Fortwo with silver Tridion).

hehe thanks for the replies! yea i've never been a huge fan of porches i suppose i like something i see as a little more unique (hence a z4m coupe).

I love the looks of the audi r8, such a clean profile imo. never sat inside one but i think i'll take a trip down to an audi dealer in a few months and have a look see.

as per performance, that doesnt so much worry me as im in Aus and our top speed limit on roads is 110km (approx 65-70mph).

i imagine it would potentially be a little more practical than a z4m?

More practical? I've never seen the R8's storage spaces but being mid-engined and all i highly doubt if it has more luggage space than a Z4M.

I think they look fantastic, and make a great deal of sense... but if I had the money I'd be waiting for them to depreciate more first. If it's a car worth owning it'll be worth owning when it's a bit older yet imho :)

They do look great but believe it or not i found it looks understated in the metal! Of course it could be the colour combination of the one i saw (black with black sideblades) but in pictures it looked a lot more special than on the road. You could even confuse it with a TT when in all black!

i think that could be part of the alure - that they can be so understated and hten people take a 2nd look and go oh. thats not a tt.

i absolutely agree that the black is not a good colour for them, i liked the white and the blue colour schemes.

Yuck. Bad case of overdesign with silly sideblades and those gaytime running lights. It may be good but give me an understated rs4/6 anyday, if it's an Audi you want.

And yet in real life that all black one looks like big TT. I'll take mine in a nice blue with light coloured sideblades.

ive also seen that one for sale, looks amazing. I would have one in a heartbeat, if budget allowed obviously !

They are pretty common round manchester, even saw one with a full chrome vinly wrap the other day, looked a bit odd but certainly got the looks from passers by...

in aus they seem to be between 240-300k? wonder what insurance and running costs would come with one... i imgaine those alone would be quite prohibative.
