Attacked by the neighbours dog :(

Most dogs are like people if they have a crap start they tend to socially unadjusted.

The big losers in these situations are the ones attacked and the dog. Witch usual gets put down due to the idiot who brought it miss treating or not training it. I have a rescue dog who had problem (not aggression related) But with training and love he is now a great buddy. He is not the best trained dog in the world (he loves eating his own poo!!) But he is improving.

I would just urge you to speak to your neighbor first. If he wont do anything about it get help with training. Then i would advise you to call the RSPCA and report it to them. Its not fair for you to live in fear of that dog. Its not fair on that dog not to be looked after.
 
Goodness. Sorry to hear about this Aquazi. As everyone else has said, well worth speaking to the neighbour. Don't be confrontational, just say that you're concerned given the 'extent of your injuries' and just wanted to make them aware that this could happen again. See what they say and go from there.

If the dog is overly territorial and prone to attacking strangers then the next person might not be so 'lucky'.

Secure your garden again to ensure that there's no way the dog can get in. You don't want to have to experience it coming in and hurting you in your own house. If the neighbours don't take it seriously then perhaps have a re-think and take further action.
 
You just need to be sensible here. Pop round and have a chat with the neighbor, im sure they will be more than apologetic and no doubt will keep the dog more under control. No need to go crazy just yet and have the thing put down.
 
I see this has sparked some debate...

I'll stick my hand up and say i dont like dogs... Never have since i was chased by one as a child.

Think i was actually suffering some form of shock yesterday as it all just happened... Even in the evening i wasnt feeling quite right - like butterflies in my stomach but in my head if that makes sense! I just distracted myself by building the cot, making dinner, going on this forum! To pay attention.

In hindsight i should have just gone striaght over and had a word as soon as I had realised as they are resonable and nice people.... Not sure if that applies to the daughter who owns the dog though!

Think it only dawned on me this morning leaving the house that i was actually scared of going towards their house again!

I''ll have a word with them tonight after i go to the minor injuries as my GP is fully booked.
 
My other half is scared of all dogs now full stop.

For some reason the one that bit her ran straight past me and went for her. It soon ran off after I booted it.

Its owner was rally nice about it though and promised to put up a more secure fence.
 
That looks like a puncture wound and you need to be professionally checked out. You could end up with some severe bruising also. As a matter of course, I think the medics checking you out will request the information and have a responsibility to report it. So it won't be you going to the police but out of courtesy informing your neighbours that you had to seek medical intervention and as a result the professionals have a duty of care to others and this matter has been taken out of your hands.

I hope you heal well and can have some confidence around dogs in the future. They're not all bad
 
That is a nasty bite and I would get it looked at ASAP, if your neighbors are decent, then this should be sorted out quickly, I think you know the answer and what needs to happen. Good luck

Statistically, Labradors are responsible for the most human bites per year, but unlike other dogs they go for the limbs, not the neck/face. Therefore as the injuries are less shocking they dont get the publicity Staffies and Terriers, etc do but are equally as aggressive in the wrong households.

Most folk realise dogs attacks are ultimately the fault of the moron owners :thumbsup:

Which is why when a dog attacks it must be reported - and depending on the severity - the poor dog usually ends up being put down !
 
Haha wondered when this would get into the Labrador discussion!

Labradors - too many are owned by Mr and Mrs model 2.5 kids family with no experience of having a dog - these are the people who think it's OK for the dog to be off the lead in the park - having it romp all over the place and running at owners who have dogs on the lead - oblivious to challenges to keep their dog away! ( can you tell this is personal experience!!)

The same lack of control results in the bite statistics - these owners think chastising a dog is like talking to your three year old - I hear this every week it makes me furious!

Of course there are plenty of Good and considerate Lab owners - but Labs do have this urban myth image of being a nice easy dog for the family - but again any dog in the wrong hands has a challenge to overcome.
 
ok todays update..... got it looked at by the onsite medic at work... recon its ok as its dry now... gave me some antibiotics for 21 days.... but said they are just as a precaution as there looks to be no sign of sepsis... which would show by now. got the mother of all bruises too!!

£8.20 for a prescription is a joke though..... last time i paid £6.70 - admittedly that was 10 years ago!!

Just had a friendly chat with the neighbour..... not sure what to make of it...on one hand he was apologetic and i showed him my bite.... but then he was also dismissive.... basically saying its his daughters dog and she leaves it here and its out of control sometimes!!

I said what if had been a little child at the door... your would be criminally liable.... which he didnt know what to say.

He also admitted that he knew sometimes it used to run in our garden!!! we thought they didnt know!! Told him i've now blocked off the hedge - I remained calm - but in hindsight I should have given him an ultimatum.

The dog isnt around today - but if i see the dog's behaviour hasnt improved i'll report it... as i have atleast tried to give them some neighbourly advice.

Our shepherd is now 12 years old (see avatar) and has calmed down a lot in his old age. We are, and always have been, super careful especially when people come to our house. He regards his role to protect me and Mrs R and these things are a fine line. When I used to travel a lot Mrs R always felt more secure having him around - his bark would be enough to put most potential intruders off! Fortunately we have never discovered what he would do with an uninvited visitor.


This should be reported to the police. If history repeated itself with a small child and you hadn't reported it, how would you feel? The dog is not your problem. Indeed, your neighbour appears to be suggesting that he's none too happy with his daughter's dog either!

Hope that your arm mends quickly.

Horrible to see that aquazi, would really shock me too.

Would seeing a nurse at an emergency centre not automatically trigger a police report when they treat dog bites?

It should but Aquazi was seen by an on-site medic. Whoever that was, still has a responsibility under their code of conduct to report such an event
 
After hearing the owners response, definitely think it needs reporting! He's lucky you are not sueing him for damages!!!
 
Yeah i am not sure they did anything about reporting it... As i said i had a dog bite and they asked if it was my own and i said a neighbour and then looked at my injury.

Didnt ask the house number or anything.

I also rang 111 last night and after answering some questions (the first was is the skin beside the bite warm or cold!!) they said just to seek medical advice when i can... But didnt ask whose dog it was.

Not disagreeing with you but maybe when the injury is minor they dont care as much?
