Atomic CSL 19" and Z4M style 224s

Hi all!

I currently have a set of style 224 Z4M wheels on my E86, wanting to move to a set of 19" atomic CSL reps. However, after my research I have conflicting thoughts on tyre size for the CSLs (et38 front, et45 rear). Would 255/35/19 on the rears and 235/35/19 on the fronts be my best bet?

If I do end up going for the CSLs I will be putting my 224s up for sale, they are good wheels with no cracks/welds but are in need of a refurb. What price's are they selling at nowadays? Only one's I've found so far are up for £800/wheel though mine of course won't be that much due to condition. Will add picture's if I get a moment.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It depends what width the rims are.

My MC came with CSL Reps so 8.5J front and 9.5J rears with 235/35x19 and 265/30x19 tyres so those sizes will fit in the arches and those offsets sound about right for a 3.0Si - M offsets are significantly different on the rear.

Do your 224s have tyres on them, and if so what condition are they in? There was a set for sale on here in January for £600 fitted with 10 year old tyres with plenty of tread and they have sold, but I've no idea what for!

I paid £350 for my 224s in need of a refurb with barely legal tyres in 2020.

Thanks for your reply!

The CSLs i’m looking at are 8.5j/9.5j so sounds like that wheel/tyre combo will be ideal. My 224s have very much worn out old toyo proxes sports, so I would essentially be selling alloy’s only with some decorative rubber!

I think I'd be inclined to go a bit wider than 255 on a 9.5J rear to avoid it looking stretched.

This is how a 265 looked on my 9.5J rear wheel.

No rim protection!

We did the same wheel swap 18's to 19"s recently and both the front at 225/35 and the rear at 255/35 were stretched and looked "undertyred" when fitted, and as the photo above, devoid of any rim protection!
So went to 235/35 Michelin PS5 on the front and the rear Michelin PS4S 265/35, as the 265 is not available in PS5 out in the colonies........
The shoulder shape of the tyres going from Michelin SuperSports to a current performance Michelin is quite different
Other tyre brands of course may not have this issue.
We did end up with a slight rub on tight cornering eg, swinging around to reverse into the garage, But contrary to the debate and opinion the ride is transformed with the new wheels and tyres and a pleasure to drive now.
Also fitted 10mm spacers and longer bolts front and rear for more 'poke' - the suspension height is OE, and doubt if we will tinker with that.
A quick pic when leaving the tyre shop
