At Last !! New Car/ Queries.

:D Hi all,
After a frustrating delay I have now got my "new to me" 2004 Z4 2.5 SE. Bit of a hiccough towards the end of last week when my newly MOT.d car decided to throw an airbag light which dealer thought he had sorted! Off to B.M.W. dealers for a new seat belt tensioner, various sensors, and a bill for £450... which the garage paid.
Picked up the car on Monday night and went for a blast between Merthyr, Brecon Beacons, Crickhowell,- stoping for a meal at the Bear- then Abergavenny and home. Top down motoring at its best! I didn't hang around and computer gave a reading of 31.5mpg. My turbo Saab would have returned about 26 mpg on the same roads. :driving:

First impressions...excellent tractability in 5th gear...ditch the runflats...ditch the runflats.....d....youve got the idea! :headbang:
Jobs to do...Second key will manually unlock doors and boot, starts the car BUT will not work in remote mode no matter what I do to try to programme it. :headbang:
Shutting the boot almost took my hand off...new second hand tampers bought...fitting tomorrow.
Handbrake needs to be pulled up to 60* before it begins to work, cable adjustment needed. So much for new MOT.

I.C.E. needs to be sorted. I am happy with speakers and business radio works ok BUT I NEED to sort out I-POD connection.
3 possible solutions.Do BMW do a radio to fit Z4 with a USB connection on the front?
Try to rig up aux lead. Not too keen on this idea - I-Pod sounds much better when signal is taken from Apple socket at base rather than earphone socket.
Fit new DAB radio with aux and USB connection on the front. I notice Halfrauds are doing a bit of a sale on audio at present With blanking plate, wiring adaptor, and ariel adaptor about £150.00. This is the option I am veering towards. Any comments/Ideas from the forum

p.s.....I PROMISE photo's will follow! :driving:

Hi, you must live very local to me judging by the drive you mentioned!!

With the 2nd key, have you tried taking the car for a long drive using that key. The ignition charges the key so could be a flat battery? If not it is possible to split the remote and instal a new battery very cheap!

The DAB sounds like a good idea but personally I HATE aftermarket CD players etc as they really spoil the clean look of the dash. I've personally got a iPod connection inside the glovebox from BMW but it is possible to add aftermarket solution.

Wesh _Z...I am in Abertillery, S.E.Wales. Will try the key idea...nothing lost if I have to perform surgery...I just need to make sure I have one fully functioning key  I know what you mean regarding clean dashboard lines aftermarket CD players tend to have the Christmas Tree effect. I am looking to see what is available at present. large , easy to use controls are a must ...esp. with no steering wheel controls.

The second key almost certainly needs charging. I had this with my first car and carried both keys for a while until it came back to life. Expect odd behaviour as the battery comes back to life. For a while mine would lock the car but not unlock it. Once fully charged I just swapped keys once a month to keep them both charged.
