Armed police in the UK - discuss

LOL we may differ here again but I don't see that as a down point

No way should your average beat boby be armed.

At the end of the day they are just like every one else and with the stressfull jobs many of them must have, just as likely to have a bad day. It would just mean more leathal weapons on the streets and more chance of them being used. Simples

Hehe, I thought you'd say that. To be honest, I'm ambivalent but it's never going to happen, so there's not much point wishing for it.

In my job I am armed .
Being armed puts a great responsibility on your shoulders which I don't think your average bobby would want
With the red tape that restricts the use of lethal force I don't think being armed would have made any difference to the events in Manchester as they were obviously taken by surprise

No we should'nt be arming the everyday Bobby, we already have limited armed response Police which is enough.

The Govt should be spending more time and money on lunatic asylums....only then will our streets be safer.

All police are armed in the US. The vast majority of them will go through their entire career with out having fired a shot outside of the shooting range. Being as how I'm a concerned citizen. I will endeavor to make their job easier. All I can say is "don't burgle my house bro"

.........And we wonder why gun crime is rife in other countries. God forbid if ordinary citizens in the UK were ever allowed to own guns casually at home :x

*sigh* joining another long thread and can't be hooped reading all the way thru.

No guns for Uk police please. Managed fine so far, will only encourage all "so solid cru" type gangs to carry them, or actually OBTAIN them (if they don't have them already).

Sad news about the officers. But no guns for UK cops please.... just no need

i say no

even if these female officers were armed i don;t think it would have helped at all, as far as they were aware they were attending a minor incident so they would not have had their guns in their hands, sounds like the idiot just shot them without warning

After 4 pages of views i have come up with the answer:
1/Bring back the death penalty.
2/Arm the Police.
3/Leave the EU.
4/Make Nosa Prime Minister.

Nice collection their Bigdog, That Chuck yeager Colt is gorgeous, and worth a few $$$ I would imagine.
I take it these are all still back home as I can not imagine the German authorities letting you have them

I know Guns are not everyones cup o tea but I also don't think its fair to have a go at someone who collects firearms.
Being an army brat then joining the services myself I was brought up with and have handled / used many types of firearms, I have never, ever ever felt the need or urge to point one at another living thing.

I also want my kids to know how to use one.

But I do agree we should not arm our bobbys.

+1 on not arming UK police. All that will happen is UK criminals will become armed with guns themselves = busy time for Mrs a11y working in A&E. Actually, it'd would probably make her life easier as all the idiots with knives would kill each other rather than f**k it up and make a half-arsed job of it, thus requiring A&E.

The UK has low levels of gun crime so lets keep it that way.

Totally agree with Nosa though on earlier postings - hang that b*****d...

None of my guns have committed any crimes nor have I ever committed a crime with them. And I would certainly give the fine people of England far more credit than you just did. In Switzerland it is mandated by law to have a fully automatic combat rifle and a semi auto handgun in every able bodied mans home and the government supplies them. I went there on holiday and was not shot. Please remember that the media only shows the bad side when it comes to guns. It's not the wild west as the media portrays. I have lived in the US for 54 years now. I have never seen any one ever pull a gun on someone. I however have pulled a gun on a guy my mom was dating. As he decided to start beating her after bringing her home from a date. I shudder to think what might have happened to my mom had my only option been to call the police and wait while I stood there and watched my mom take a beating. I was only 14 years old. No way could I have stopped him my self. No shots were fired. I simply told him to get the F out of our house. He did. And rather quickly I might add.

Considering the type of man he was to be beating your mother, I guess you're lucky he didn't fetch a gun himself and return...

Switzerland has something of a history and is geared to defend itself and its neutrality in the future. You don't need military grade assault weapons to defend your home.
