Arial AM Amplifier

Finally got my stubby fitted using an indy BM specialist only to find there is now no reception on MW.
Car back in again yesterday and their diagnosis was that the arial amplifier has probably failed, a cost of £200.17 + VAT to replace! Really p****ed off as all was OK until the arial base was replaced.
No idea how this could have happened but as I generally use Radio 5, its not worth buying a new one just for one station. FM and radio 4 works OK, it is not the fault of the stubby as I've tried my Series 1 arial on the Z.
Anyone ever experienced an amplifier failure? Garage tell me they have tried re-booting by disconnecting the battery but I'm not sure they did. The amplifier has been out and all feeds and coax are reported as OK. Help! Apologies if there is an answer on the forum but all I could find was a reference to re-booting.

Thanks srhutch, short answer is no but I'll check and do my own re-boot, garage bought in an audio/electrical specialist and he's the one who diagnosed the amplifier as the problem.
Just odd that all was OK two weeks ago until they fitted a new base, so somehow I think the garage have done something but can't prove it.
