ARGH!! 3.0i E85 Wont start - doesn't even turn?

tbh.. it was a pretty easy job in the end - much easier than I had thought reading the TIS...
Only two arseaches was the complete lack of light (a 15w desk lamp really isn't helpful - seriously need to fix my garage light rig sometime!) and actually getting the motor out of the engine bay.. but with a bit of twisting and turning, I eventually got it out via the front wheel well lol

ok.. new starter motor in and it fired up perfectly first time!

£30 well spent ;)

All in, this in an hour's job and it's not technical.
As mentioned before, all you need is a 10mm, 8mm and 13mm socket and wrench.

The hardest part is just actually seeing what it is you're doing.. once your fingers tell you what you're feeling, you're half-way home :)
my advice? get the new motor first, so you can actually picture what it is you're trying to undo

Good result

What was £30, tools?

Edit: just seen on your 2,000 post thread it was the starter for £30, even better result

I had the same problem -dead starter motor. Can be removed from the top.
Disconnect battery
Remove air intake assemblies to give you some room. A 10mm and 8mm nut on back of starter motor removes the wiring.
two Torx bolts hold the starter motor so you will need 12mm Torx sockets to remove these. Pull out starter motor and swap.
Exchange unit about £100 from GSF or similar.
