Are they bi xenons or not or even xenons at all?

Hi guys, I am a newbie and will be publishing some nice pics of my new black 3.0si sport roadster with red leather soon, but I have a question about the lights. First thing is is that the advert said bi xenons and when I looked at the car I noticed that there was one projector on the outside that ran the low beam and a standard halogen on the inside for the hi beam. I would say that these are not bi xenons but not to worried at that point until last night when I drove it in the dark for the first time and the low beam brightness was pretty poor especially compared to my 3 series after Market non projected hids. I suppose my question is "can you get halogens with projectors and how can I improve it?"

If it's got xenons then there will be no leveler next to the on switch for lights just one to alter dial brightness.

Well there is a dial and now I'm pretty f#*#*d off :x . If I buy some hid replacement bulbs will they fit behind the projectors and work correctly.?

if there is xenons one indication is headlight washers IIRC it is a legal requirement to have them on xenons.

the light from halogens is really yellow and xenon quite white and bright, you should be able to make a fair guess just from the light.

sorry i couldnt be more help :)

If the advert said it had Xenons then Xenons it should have. As Paddy, if no leveller swithch inside AND headlamp washing system fitted then you have Xenons. Check back with the seller.....

I have washers. The light is more yellow than my other car but still White so looking at them wasn't conclusive.

headlight washers are not an indicator of xenons as they were an option on halogens. You could conclude though that if it does NOT have them they are halogens

Go for the switch as suggested then several other things like yellow hazard stickers under the bonnet, slight flicker on switching on and brilliant white light, or pull the rear cover off and take a look. Xenon has a big cube on the back of the bulb.

There are also marking on the lenses but you need good eyesight to read them

Cheers for the info guys. I'm pretty sure that it has Halogens now but has anyone just changed the bulbs for hid's behind the projectors?

bit of confusion going on here me thinks...

it sounds to me like it this car doesnt even have xenons - you can easily see the difference between the yellowish light from a halgoen bulb and whiterish light from a hid bulb but only you could tell from seeing the car.

it most definitely didnt have HIDs as standard as it has the light height adjustment switch inside the car (which the hid cars do not) and as you also stated it has the hi-beam bulb on the inside compartment of the light unit (the hid cars run the hi and low beam from the outside projector).

bumpers washers are an optional extra and are standard on some non-hid cars (standard on hid cars) so this cant be used to tell if the car has hid's or not.

I have a non-hid standard car and have changed the bulbs behind the projectors for hid's. Although you need to install other equipment too like hid ballasts, it aint just a case of changing the bulbs. many people on the forum has done this and they are an excellent job.

hope this helps buddy.

Also, the xenon light housing is always delivered with chrome inserts and the halogen housing with black, no?

Just looked on eBay and the kits range from £50 to £80 and 35w to 55w. Does anyone know which ones I should go for. I want 8000k as any higher gives too much blue imo.

8000K are blue!!

4300K are standard (white) like the ones your 3-series would have had.

I got these... http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/hid-conversion-kits-slim-50w/h1h3h7h1190059006-hid-kits/50w-slim-single-beam-hid-conversion-kits-p-457.html

and chose the 4300K, H7 with error cancellors (so the light-out bulb indicator on your dash doesnt light up - these are as close to stock BMW hids you can get imo!

Not true - pre facelift Xenons use a shutter to switch between dipped and main on the outer xenon, but the inner H7 bulb is still there as a flash to pass and secondary main beam.
