Are these bushes screwed... Again?

So when I brought the car I was told the control arm bushings were being replaced. A few days after I got the car I took a look underneath and noticed that the inner part of the bush had come out a little.

The car went back to the garage and they agreed to replace.

I've checked the car again tonight and the inner ring on the front and the back appear to be working their way out of the bush. I'm not sure if these rings are some kind of protective ring rather than the bush completely failing. There doesn't appear to be a massive amount of play in them.

Should I really be replacing these?

Looking at the photos...(I just replaced my bushings last weekend doing the work myself).... those aren't new bushings. I would fall of my chair in suprise if they were. They look like they are original or used bushings. And no.... that rubber shouldn't be coming off like that. The bushing is either breaking down or defective.

They certainly don't look 'new' :| ..... Confront the garage and see what they have to say about it.

There does seem to be a minor fresh mark on the arm itself, so they may have been tampered with at some point recently.

Well I checked them after the refit and they had been changed. If they weren't new then they have been cleaned up pretty well and like you say there are signs of marks on the arm where someone has tried to get them off.

Whilst I 'should' go back to the garage, it's an hour drive to get there and then I had to wait pretty much the whole day waiting for them to do what ever they did. I don't really want them touching my car again. For £50 and an hour swinging a spanner it's not worth the hassle.

I'll order some meyle hd ones and swap them myself.

Does anyone know the size of the bushes i.e. What size gear puller I'd need to get them off? Would a 10cm puller be big enough?

The TIS has the instructions for removal/replacement. There are many ways to remove the bushings that I've read on the various forum's.... I would do a search on YouTube for some DIY videos... That's what I did to get a sense of how to remove/replace the bushings. One thing for sure... make sure you put lots of silicone lubricant on the control arm and inside the bushing when you go to put it on. You will be sorry if you don't....
