Are there scammers on the forum?

Everyone here has been amazing! But I just want to be sure. I've had a couple of messages here, asking to email rather than exchange messages here. Am I right to be concerned?
I normally would be careful with such things. But is this normal for a forum?

Depends on how long they have been on the forum. If it is about a sale with pictures, it is very challenging to do that on the forum.

Everything I've bought/sold through here has had contact through Whatsapp and/or email. Like PVR says, it's not ideal using the forum to share pictures, and videos even less so.

I haven't read of any scams on here, but just be cautious and use your common sense.

Just don't communicate with someone wanting a VO bootlid :stir:

That would be a very niche scam!

Never had any issues at all on the forum

There were a few threads of people buying stuff that wasn’t what was advertised etc but few and far between

Buyer beware and be cautious like you would on eBay and places like that

We have the classic (but rare thanks to good moderation work) spammers with links to crappy websites but recently there has been a scammer trying to sell wheels with pictures taken of Ebay and right now it looks like there is one trying to sell a ZHP gear knob once again using ebay pictures. It is getting difficult to detect them as I guess they go through the effort of posting manually a somewhat convincing ad rather than selling something completely unrelated to the forum and using bots

The mods are pretty quick to spot anything 'untoward' in my experience. As said above, though, just be vigilant. You can always look through a member's previous posts to give an indication whether they are genuine.

Suspected scammers can be “reported” using the “!” Icon top right and the mods are pretty good at jumping on it.
Apart from one or two newbies who are not familiar with the ethos of this forum, I have dealt with nothing but gentlefolk. Behave with honesty and integrity and expect others to do the same.

Thanks everyone!
I thought the chances are low as I have experienced nothing but positively here :D
Just wanted to make sure!

BTW 50% off RAC breakdown cover until tomorrow 7am!! If anyone is on the lookout!

I guess my instincts were right on this occasion. The last comment is from an established forum member

I've bought and sold quite a few bits and pieces on the forum (including a few cars) and never had a problem using PMs, e-mail or texts.

Most scams tend to be fairly obvious.

Guessing that topic has been removed as can't open it. If so shows the mods are on it!

I've sold, bought and received for free a number of bits off the forum with no issues. Including a watch where the owner was running late, handed it to me and said "just pay me when you get home", which restored my faith in humanity.

However I did fall foul of one seller who was selling a lot of parts not as described and now have a damaged facelift bumper, that I don't know what to do with and a hole in my bank account.

Scammers are everywhere. Use your common sense and make sure you get all their details and if you don't know how to conduct a deal then don't unless you are aware of the risks and happy to do so.
