Are the 1 series coupes any good?

My wife just recently bought a 125i m-sport coupe......very nice indeed, though I would have gone for the 135i coupe if it had been for myself :D
Lovely car to drive the 125i :driving:

If its not causing any engine issues, why not just remove the LED? No more emissions light? :)

I think that'll be an MOT failure as all warning lights should be operative.

Tim.

And how would they know?

Visual inspection doesn't usually cover testing that the lights are operative? No light on = pass

I don't think the EML light is part of the test anyways unlike power steering, brake fluid, airbag, power steering.

Can't they simply switch the ignition on and tell which warning lights are working and which aren't? :? I would have thought testers are wised up to people removing warning light bulbs in the hope for a pass otherwise whats the point including warning lights as part of the test?

Unless the light is illuminated at start up which only a few are and it failed to show then yes it would fail but if it isn't one of these lights then they would not know.

I believe it's on the right hand side and to get to it you need to remove the back seats. It's very similar in design to the E46 3 series.

Thanks-so not a complete faff like the zed.

I had a 120d Coupe but quickly got bored of it so swapped it for the zed after 8 months

My car share has a 118d coupe. Really nice car. Pretty quick with good economy, nice ride, low cabin noise.

If I was after a 'sensible' car it would definitely be up there on my short list.

It's not the greatest but not too many fiddly bits. I only know because when they change the roof it all needs to come out to fit it properly. Gives quite a bit of room to work with. You'd possibly also be able to get to it via the boot but as it's at the back of the seat slightly to the right it would be a complete faff to reach in that far.

I had mines 5 years and 3 months. Used the roof at every opportunity and no issues with the motor. Only issue was the hole in the roof caused by BMWs design flaw which was sorted on 2010 models onwards. There was never a service bulletin in the UK for it but it occurred if the roof was lowered and raiser around 350-400 times. £3k for a new roof but bmw 'goodwill' they paid for everything apart from £100. Which was a much better outcome for me as the car at the time was nearly 4 years old with only 14k on the clock.

One thing with 2.0ls is also the hydro units can go. Again mines went a 13k and 3 and a half years. One garage said
I'd need them to look at it, diagnose it then Replace it for around £1200 and the other dealership I asked to fit it because I knew what the problem was and my local Indy let me use their diagnostics system for free, supplied and fitted the unit for £400. Bmw claim there is no problem with the hydro unit but dealers part departments will tell you they always have them in stock and they are always required for 1 and 3 series. Go figure. I still have my old one which looked brand new. Just incase bmw ever do admit the problem.

Have read that an illuminated warning light itself shouldn't affect an MOT in anycase. Only if the senors were faulty would there be an issue. Then again I could be wrong 8)

Any warning lights illuminated which stay illuminated during a MOT, which indicates a problem is a fail. This change was brought in for April 2012 as an advisory but after 1st September 2012 any warning lights on the dash are a MOT failure.

Pretty stupid to have a test to check the car is road worthy and then pass it with a warning light indicating a problem with the vehical.
