Are my speakers shot?

I have a Z4M coupe with nav so the FAQs lead me to believe I have the hifi stereo system 'Professional'. I have no storage bins behind the seat and it sounds okayish but I was fiddling around with the settings the other day and noticed that if I put the fader to the rear then the sound is very tinny.

I thought the speakers behind the seats would be woofers but given that they produce zero bass I didn't know if something was amiss or that's just the way it is!

Apologies for the newb question but reading up on it doesn't really tell quite how good/bad it should sound as standard.

You should definitely hear bass, though it's not as loud as you would expect. Sounds like you're just hearing the little mid-range speakers behind the head rests. The bigger so called sub-woofers below those aren't that big, but they do put out bass. It seems odd two speakers would both give it up together. I'm suspecting a wiring issue.

At least check the connectors at the amp and see if anything looks out of order. Accessing the speakers is a lot more trouble. If you can determine the correct pins to the speakers at the amp from the WDS, you could check the resistance through the speakers as another check, as well as check for audio out of the amp.

The subs work best when the sound is centered. Moving front or back actually lowers the output of the subs in my experience.

Download some bass test samples and play them in the car. You should feel air moving around the rear subs

I was going to say I think the rear subs are fed from the front set so turning the sound back will only get the rear mids. It's normal.

Same here... unless all our cars are knackered!

Whilst having the obligatory mess around with my stereo I had thought it sounded rubbish with just the rears on.. but apart from checking they are all working, theres not much reason (in my opinion) to move the fade around anyway as its such a small cabin!

Seems they are working- I popped the covers off and they were doing their thing but it seems their thing is to not be particularly bassy.

The look easy to remove but I'm guessing it's not as easy an upgrade as one might think.
