Are interior lights on a timer?

I was just wondering, because I had the boot open for some time yesterday while I swapping things between my current E86 and it's replacement.

After a while the boot light went off, and I wasn't looking to a fault-finding mission.

But then I opened the door and everything was working as normal - phew!

Mine does that, I assume it's intentional.
