are expensive details a waste of time and money

was wondering whilst trying to remove swirls on my carbon black coupe whether if you have a full paint correction to remove swirls at several hundred quid just how long before the swirls are back again, even with careful 2 bucket washing. seems to me whether i towel dry, leather, silicone blade or whatever, the swirls are back as soon as the sun gets on it. :headbang:

who knows for sure ? stands to reason though if you go round in circles eventually the paintwork will show swirls ?

I dont think there is any clearcut way/method of avoiding swirls. Its just one of lifes annoyances.

Re: OP - I dont think pro details are not a waste of money. However, even with the carefulest of wash techniques the non swirl look wont last for long periods. Personally I would stock up on a decent quality polish, glaze and wax that with patience will hide the majority of defects :-)

If you aren't supposed to use a circular polishing motion that makes just about every machine polisher redundant.

I'd have thought that the best way to minimise swirls when polishing / glazing / waxing would be to make sure the paint is as clean as possible, and of course use quality applicators / cloths that are absolutely clean. But even then, it's always going to happen because who has the time to get every single speck of dirt off every time you wash it ? I'm tending toward the Taz Method :D

Have you tried removing the swirls by hand? I got about 50% of mine gone by hand

Machine polishers are Random ... To get any chance of obtaining an atomically flat surface dring my phd I would polish my sample using diamond paste on this polishing pad. I would use a figure of 8 pattern and rotate by 45 ish degrees every so often.

Why not just rename the thread?

'are black cars a waste of time and money?' :poke:

(other than Taz) all anyone seems to get from them is 'swirl grief'

(new medical condition)

Get the paint corrected then get the ceramic cost which is guaranteed for 5yrs.

chris g,you put your car through a mechanical carwash !!!!! what are you, crazy ? or at least misinformed, i have been into hobby cars for over 35 years and its universally recognised that the quickest and sureest way to damage your paint is to put it through a car wash, they are for the shiny suited travelling salesman company owned mondeo so he turns up at his next client looking clean. to be fair my swirls are from the previous owners and i have'nt yet given it a full machine polish. but i am meticulous re clean microfibres , cloths towels, 2 buckets etc etc, if yours is a lighter colour ie silver you may not be aware of the swirls , but look closely when the sun is on the car, i'll wager you will be pretty horrified or your not sufficiently analized yet in the frustrations of trying to get your paintwork right !!!! :headbang: :headbang:

I think he meant a contactless wash.... few car washes near me wash the car without putting a brush or sponge anywhere near your car

mr mafoo, stock up on waxes, polishes, glazes , fillers etc etc products to conceal swirls, nicks sratches minor marks and imperfectations, ..hmmmm,... now where does mrs mad4slalom keep her make up bag ? .... :tumbleweed:
