ARE BMW drivers A$$Holes???

BMW drivers do have a terrible reputation in the UK - justifily earned IMHO. I'd say at least 95% of BMW's under 4 years old will be Company Cars and not personal drives - it's all abou 'status' ( yawn). They sold more 3 Series last year than Ford Mondeos last year for heavens sake :headbang: That said Z 3' and 4's are still relatively uncommon - don't often see another one when we're running around 8) I think it's got worse now that BMW have powerful Diesels

I used to be into Series Landrovers - great on-line comunity and you'd get a wave every time :D

…..

I dont like to call folks that, but there is a big contrast between BMW owners and the Benz owners i deal with, and meet time to time on the road. The BMW owners seem to be more concerned about there individual vehicle as if they are all not all the same, and a lot of model snob appeal. The Benz owners could care less as long as there is a 3 pointed star on the hood then your welcomed to the club whether its a 1972 model or 2008, AMG or C class. I've been around both groups for over 15 years now. Just my 2cents...

Well I myself have gave up waving at other BMW's that are not Z4's. No one waves back. the Z4's on the other hand usually will when they see.

Yep, and Z3 owners seem even friendlier, they seem to be happy just driving their BMW roadster or coupe and could care less if its the most expensive or fastest bmw model, isnt that what its really all about? Life is to short to stress out over material things...

Oh yeah, I wave at them too :D

Actually I've gotten to where I try to wave at all roadster owners. Even the non BMW's. They after all, have a roadster.

Without wishing to make a sweeping generalisation, after carrying out exhaustive studies of road users over the last few years, EVERY male who drives a Citroen Picasso or a Renault Scenic is a complete f%@%ing w@*ker :D

I wave at other Z4's and Z3's and I'd say the return wave is 50/50.
When I'm on my bike about 90% of the other bikes on the road wave back...
(I know what your gonna say Enfield! It's because I'm on my gay green bike right? )

What brought this on, was today I was sitting in line to get through the gate on Norfolk Naval Base and a brown ? Z4 2.5i pulled up next to me. I gave a little wave and he just jerked his head like I poked him in the arse and drove off.

There was a red Solstis (sp) behind me. He watched the whole thing. He saw me look in the rear view mirror and he just raised his hands in a gesture like: 'What can you do'.

I waved, he wave. Two kindred spirits.....

My experience has been pretty good, there are about 5 Z4's on base and i see a few here and there in town and every time i wave they wave back. Come to think of it every convertible waves back (except this one XLR) well as long as the tops down. Now on the bike (HD) people will damn near fall off the bike to wave and i think that is awesome.

My only complaint about the Z in regards to courtesy's is i always get the punk in the S2000 pulling up next to me wanting to race :headbang: and even in my 2.5 i normally have them off the line until about 50ish :D

That's one thing I've been wondering about. The lack of people wanting to race. I've only had one total stranger come up next to me and indicate a want to race, but being he was in more a less a grocery getter, I think he just wanted to see what kind of power the Z had. But yeah I figured here in Vegas where most cars are flashy/powerful/ricer there would be alot of people wanting to do it. But nope. It's almost eerie. Maybe it's because I don't have a loud exhaust.

I guess you do not have any 335i drivers around :fuelfire:

I would concur that a significant number of BMW drivers as well as other higher-end vehicle drivers do have a holier-then-thou attitude.

I attribute it to the likelyhood that they're just annoyed someone else has something they have. In such a populated world, people want to be special, 'unique' if you will. They want to stand out and have the spotlight shine on them in a room full of others.

For those of you who flash your lights at people driving slower then you'd prefer in the passing lane: what do you do when someone tailgates you? You slow down, as already has been mentioned here. You don't OWN that lane. I hate them too, but I just stay a safe distance away because if they get angry at my tailgating and flashing and slam on their brakes, I might eat their rear-end! I patiently wait for a spot to over-take them in the no. 2 lane and make my move, nice and safe. Worked a tailgating/agressive driving accident this weekend - they both lost
