Are 16" Rims fine for snow tyres???

What sort of widths and offsets are we looking at for 16s & 17s?

I am considering getting either 16 or 17's,what should I keep in mind?I have no idea about tyres and alloys at the moment have 108's on my car.

Assuming you mean for winter tyres?

I've decided to keep my eyes open for a set of 17 x 8 wheels with et47 offset to whack 225/45/17 tyres on. 5x120 PCD obviously.

The wheels are standard e46 fitment so there should be plenty of cheap choices around and the tyre prices don't differ much between 16s and 17s. I'm ditching the wider rears as with winter tyres the narrower the better.

I have seen a 17" alloys which I like but have got some damage and needs new tyres,but I make it a small project.

:lol: you are right ...... but have you tried buying winter gear in winter .... prices suck .......

and ... its perfect because I was just about to post a thread about me wanting a set of alloys to fit winter tyres onto - cant make up my mind what size.
I drive in europe a lot and winter tyres are compulsory ....... ie, not fitted - not insured.

Just for info - if you have never driven on winter tyres, its not the tread pattern thats different, the tread blocks have hundreds of razor like serrations in them that cause the tyre to heat up
really quickly ...... driving on ice and snow is like night and day difference with standard tyres.

I have to agree with teamemmenracing there, I had these tyres on my 3 series. During the last snows in January, I tried to escape from the estate where I live up at no more than 10 degree (but very icy) slope with the RFT Bridestones, no chance!, -I even tried reversing for 1/4 mile. With the proper Winter tyres, no problem even with a bit of gusto! People need educating in the UK, maybe it should even become law as in Germany etc? after all, every year after the clocks change and we get the first few icy nights, don't we get a spate of Numptys going crash-bang-wallop? I now have a FWD Audi, so no excuse not to go to work on a snowy morning..... Damn! so keep those Summer tyres! :lol: No, seriously, I would say 16" are fine as the increased sidewall height (Typically 50 or 55 AR) gives more flexibility and in the event of a slide will mean less chance of clipping a kerb with the rims? |They are very comfy, but you can't chuck the car around anything like you can on low-profile Summer rubber.

lol,very true but it hasn't been like summer at all,with all this rain and wind?
and also,as mentioned you can sort them out now and save yourself a bit of money
