Apple told to advertise that Samsung's aren't copies!

Apple have just been told by a UK judge they have to take out print adverts and show a disclaimer on their website for 6 months saying Samsung are not copying our designs! Since Apple PR is pretty much the best in the business, I'm wondering how they'll turn a positive spin on that one. (They'll probably not, they'll probably counter sue and appeal I guess!)

Bit of a slap on the wrist for the stupid amount of frivolous lawsuits that are going on between all the big techie companies these days. It's amazing any of them have the cash to develop new products as the legal depts must be becoming the biggest assets of the firms!

I use apple products. But I agree that they have gone overboard as of late. As I recall. Both apple and microsoft pirated the GUI from zerox. But i suppose it's typical these days. Don't do as I do, do as I say. Or, I stole it fair and square but you better not steal from me.

Its not an advertising it is a public notice. So more just an acknowledgement publicly. Although Apple has lost the case, having them create an advertising campaign to increase awareness of this would be a bit strong.

Advertising is a broad term, I wouldn't expect a typical apple campaign. It certainly will be tail between the legs, also I would say Apple will find a loophole in the appeal. Could take a long time.

Have you seen that Apple have apparently patented a charging system for the iPhone 5 that will mean all of your current accessories no longer work?

Apple need to be very careful - getting attacked on all fronts. They need to up their game.

The iPhone 4s was a massive disappointment.

We are legally obliged to inform you of the outcome of our court case against Samsung. The judge has ruled that Samsung are not as cool as Apple.

Its just a new charging system, wider but thiner so they can make the devices smaller. The three main factors that now determine the depth of Apples devices are standard external ports, the simcard, charging port which is now over 10 years old, and the headphone jack. When it was designed Apple never expected to have such a game changer so the charging port was designed to fit with the original iPod. It just means that your old cables wont work but you get a new one with it anyway. If you have a sound system you can still plug it in with an external AUX just not through the docking port. It was a universal Apple port but times change and it is progress. This is the reason the iPhone has stayed its current form factor, they can do anything with the internal components, just not the standard output ports. Was inevitable really. Would hate to be any other mobile phone owner because every single phone has a different port so you would have to buy a new one for every phone you buy. Least with Ppples it has been universal across its product lines. So you can use an older nano, iPod touch, iPhone, iPod etc etc in all your sound systems.

The 4s also was just a general upgrade, you have to remember the new form factor came with the iphone 4 which was only around 18 months before the 4s so really the design will only be around 3 years. For a product that outsells every other single product mobile phone I dont think an 18 month turn around is really that bad. Also to remember Apple make one phone in different sizes Samsung nokia etc sell more than a dozen.

People have too much expectation with Apple products, if one company can produce one innovation in a decade they are lucky! Apple has designed more than half a dozen and people expect complete game changers every iteration. What I would say is people need to be realistic, and products on a cycle cant be complete game changers or complete redesigns every itteration. The 4s was twice as fast, better signal and the best camera on the market. IMO what more can you ask for and it fits with the product cycle. iPhone 1, iPhone 3G new form factor, iPhone 3GS improved performance, iPhone 4 new form factor, iPhone 4S improved performance.

The iPhone 5 will be the new form factor.

Half the problem with the digital industry is that patents are not powerful enough, and were not designed for digital media, so anyone can still copy the form like Samsung pretty much did which was the argument the GUI is ever so slightly different. But the overall product is very similar, Apple is an innovative company and at the end of the day just trying to protect their products. Steve Jobs was a complete control freak tho like a child throwing its toys out the pram.

Like i said innovation is very difficult and if you look at the whole market pre iPhone there was nothing anywhere close to it. Now look at the market and it is full of iPhone copies they are all the same there is no innovation at all and I suppose they were just arguing that these companies should be making their own unique product instead of cashing in on the same idea.

Good argument

As an Apple fan I agree and look forward to the iPhone 5.
Lets be fair the whole 4 vs 4s and the timing is based on subscription periods. When the 4s was released iPhone 4 owners were part way through contracts and iPhone 3s users were out of contract. The same will be said for the iPhone 5, most of those upgrading will be like me and iPhone users.

Apple went from being a niche professional product to bust, to a global phenomenon pretty quickly. When it changed its strategy to consumer products instead of professional solutions. Now its turned full swing and they dont look after their professionals which is what made apple different in the first place. Which is sad, the new mac pro upgrade was 2 1/2 years in the making and is woeful. Very disappointed :( but the consumer products outsell the pro stuff like 100/1. So its a no brainer and which is the reason they are the wealthiest company, worth nearly twice microsoft! In just over 10 years! Just incredible when you think about it.

There will always be people arguing as consumers desperate for the next iteration. As soon as the 5 comes out the threads on macrumors will instantly turn to the 5S or the 6.. Most people aren't content for very long lol and this drives the industry.

I just find it ironic that apple and microsoft built billion dollar companies on the backs of zerox corp. work. Then apple comes along and makes a big fuss simply because the samsung tablet LOOKS simular to the ipad. Based on something looking simular. I suppose GM should have sued BMW because the gen 1 zed4 shape is simular to the late 60's early 70's corvette. It all makes apple look very petty.

I have an iPhone 4 and my g/f the 4s. It certainly ISN'T twice as fast, nor is her signal any better. In addition the Siri software is a rubbish, unusable gimmick. Battery life still isn't great either. I still say the 4s was a major disappointment. Apple are renowned for hyping up their products so you can't blame people for expecting a lot.

I have a B&W Zeppelin speaker for my iPhone which set me back £500. If the new phone doesn't dock with it I won't be buying a new phone. I've got about 4 chargers so they are all obsolete too. Makes upgrading unnecessarily expensive and pisses off your loyal customers. If it comes with a free adaptor to your old accessories then maybe I'll be pacified.

I think a lot of what they sell is style over substance and they've got away with it for a long time.
